We have all seen them lining up outside a brewery as early as 6 a.m. — or sometimes the night before — to ensure they can be the first to claim their coveted release before anyone else and sometimes even flip the bottle on the secondary market. Yes, the rare beer seekers are out there, lurking in almost every brewery and bottle shop just waiting for that whale of a beer to drop.
2017 was a banner year for St. Louis beer, and I say this based on how much of it I drank. Between festivals and brewery visits, my Untappd account topped 200 different beers in 2017. Is that a lot of beer? It is for me, but who is really counting?
Does anyone else need a few dozen beers? It’s been another knock-down, drag-out week, but it’s Friday at last! Once again, we’ve boiled the week’s beer tweets down to a sweet, sweet wort. Like nearly any major city in America, the local brewing scene in St. Louis continues to grow expontentially. But unlike other cities where the brewing is made up of many startup breweries creating a new scene, here it’s more like we’re reclaiming our heritage as the brewing capital.
It was a big deal to move a festival as large at the St. Louis Brewers Guild’s Heritage Festival from Forest Park to the Arch grounds, so my first reaction is this: it was the right decision.
