Since its inception in 2017, Brieux Carre Brewing — an impossibly perfect pun, a nod to the historic name for the French Quarter, the french term “Vieux Carre” meaning “old square” — has released some of the quirkiest named, highest quality beers in the burgeoning craft beer scene on the Gulf Coast.

Golden Road Brewery is named as a tribute to the Grateful Dead’s song The Golden Road (To Unlimited Devotion.” If they had a motto, I believe they would take inspiration from a quote by the great Jerry Garcia said: “our strong suit is what we do…” Golden Road opened their newest tasting location in the wonderfully eclectic and diverse Grand Central Market. Last weekend, I attended the second annual Los Angeles IPA Festival held at Mohawk Bend in Silver Lake, Ca. The event brought over 60 IPAs from all over the state of California for friendly competition and, of course, drinking and merriment.
