2 Days 2 Nights | Upstate NY Road Trip

July 11, 2019 | Avg. Reading Time: 7 min

When I moved to Los Angeles to attend college, one of the first and most common questions I was asked was “Where are your from?” My response would be “New York.” That would typically be followed up by something like, “Oh, I love the city! Which borough are you from?” Which would prompt me to clarify that I was from Upstate NY. This would bring about the question, “Oh, so like Buffalo?” Nope. That’s about six hours away. I would then tell them I was from the Albany area, hoping they learned their state capitals in primary school. Sometimes, I’d even have to use my hand as a makeshift map of the state, pointing out the various cities they’ve heard of to identify the Albany area.

A Beer Insider’s Road Trip Guide to Northern California

And as soon as we plugged the address into the GPS and 3+ hours popped up, a little skepticism quickly arose. But, successfully driving there and back in a single day proved it was worth the trip.

If you could leave right now on a spontaneous road trip, where would you go? Last week I set out with one of my close friends on a road trip across Colorado, Utah, and Arizona. We started from Denver and rolled into Tucson four days later.

When I was little and we’d make the trek down south to Florida or South Carolina for vacation, my mom would always stop by our local AAA Office first and get a TripTik. These were basically personalized, highlighted maps of your route showing you where to go, local traffic information along the way (always marked on the paper map with a little rubber stamp in the shape of a traffic cone), the locations of gas stations, etc. Now, of course, that service has moved online, but only if you’re a dues-paying AAA member.

When I decided to start writing here, my plan was to focus exclusively on Boston breweries. I enjoy showing people around my town and talking about it, and I felt like there was a lot to explore. Thankfully, I was … Read More
