Founders Brewing Brings Back KBS Espresso

Founders Brewing Brings Back KBS Espresso

Following its popularity as a member of Founders Brewing Company 2019’s Barrel-aged Series, Founders has seen fit to widely release a 2020 version of KBS Espresso.

A variant of the brewery’s wildly popular Kentucky Breakfast Stout, and an already fine example of how to use coffee in beer, KBS Espresso gets an extra shot of coffee flavor thanks to being aged on espresso beans after being removed from the barrel.

In a video on Founders website, in a conversation with Brewmaster Jeremy Kosmicki about the beer, BarrelMaestro Jason Heystek said, “We really wanted to come over-the-top and be an extra level of coffee on top.”

KBS Espresso, according to Heystek, gives everything you expect from the original KBS, but with an added bonus.

“You get this little extra roastiness, and then, to me, it really sits on top of the other flavors that are already there. I mean, the whiskey still comes through, so you get all the vanilla and the flavors that you get from the barrel aging, and then you just get this extra espresso-y kind of roast coffee burn.”

KBS Espresso is now available in 4-pack 12 oz bottles and on draft in both Founders taprooms in Grand Rapids and Detroit.
