22 Northmen Brewing Company | A Fresh Take on Minnesota’s Viking Heritage

July 24, 2019 |

When I stepped into 22 Northmen Brewing Company, I felt like I was in that scene of Beauty and the Beast when Gaston is singing his song.

We don’t always liken a brewery to our favorite Disney movie, but when we do it’s our highest form of flattery! Read More

Well before we met Sam and Libby, we were familiar with the pair’s brand and products.

Their enamel pins are some of the most creative, unique and wear-able beer-related accessories we’ve seen. Katie wears her hop pin regularly, swapping it … Read More

Eff Milwaukee: A Minnesotan’s Impression of the First, Funkiest & Favorite Breweries

June 4, 2019 |

It’s been a few weeks now since we made a quick beercation to Chicago and Milwaukee.

We thought about compiling all 17 breweries we visited into a single post but decided that wouldn’t be any fun to write or for you to read. We considered highlighting our top five favorite breweries in each city, but thought that would be too cliche. Instead, in a moment of clever wit, we decided to feature three breweries: the first brewery we visited, the funkiest brewery and our favorite brewery in each city. We hope you enjoy “Eff” Milwaukee!

Eff Chicago: A Minnesotan’s Impression of the First, Funkiest and Favorite Breweries

May 30, 2019 |

It’s been a few weeks now since we made a quick beercation to Chicago and Milwaukee. We thought about compiling all 17 breweries we visited into a single post but decided that wouldn’t be any fun for us to write or you to read. We considered highlighting our top five favorite breweries in each city but thought that would be too cliche.

Instead, in a moment of clever wit, we decided to feature three breweries in two posts each — the first brewery we visited, the funkiest brewery and our favorite brewery in each city. We hope you enjoy “Eff Chicago”!

How An Instagram Post Led Minnesota’s Aegir Brewing Co. to Iceland for Their First Collaboration

March 26, 2019 |

“We thought it was, like, ‘oh cool, that would be fun, but never-mind.’ And then after a while, I was like, ‘We need to take a break, and we want to do a collaboration, and why not?’” – Tim Jones

We recently caught up with brothers Tim and Jeremy Jones of Aegir Brewing Co. in Elk River, MN. The two had returned from a trip to Iceland that we unwittingly played a role in. Eager to hear their version of the story and the series of events leading up to the trip, we joined them in the taproom on a recent Saturday morning. Before we could ask them anything, though, they had a question of their own:

“You guys want a drink?” Jeremy offered.

6 Awesome Beer-Brands & Products We Love

February 28, 2019 |

One of the many things we love about the craft beer scene is how supportive it is and the community surrounding it.

When Portage Brewing Co. in Walker, MN was destroyed by an overnight fire this past January, the craft community rallied around them. Local fundraisers were quickly thrown together to help raise support, and breweries like Bent Paddle and Modist Brewing announced collaboration beers with proceeds going to support their friends at Portage Brewing.

3 Tried and True Ale Adventures-Approved Hangover Cures

January 28, 2019 |

You know that feeling: The foggy head, pounding migraine and bloated gut the morning after, reminding you of all the fun you had out drinking the night before.

We’ve been there before, too; it sucks.

Then again, maybe it is good to feel that way every now and then, just to remind ourselves how awful it feels and to serve as a cautionary reminder for next time.

Beer Lover’s Guide to Paris: French Friends & Belgian Beer

October 12, 2018 |

It’s hard to believe it’s already been over two months since our summer 2018 Europe trip. It still feels like just a couple weeks ago we were walking the black sand beaches of Iceland, gazing out over the Cliffs of Moher and admiring in revered silence the beauty of Westminster Abbey. We talk about our trip all the time and are already dreaming up our next one. But I’m getting ahead of myself. There’s one more country and ale adventure story to tell…

If there’s one thing Minnesotans are proud of, it’s the Minnesota State Fair! Though if you’d said hot dish, ice hockey, Bob Dylan, Prince, the Mall of America, Target or Duck Duck Grey Duck, you wouldn’t … Read More

From Reykjavik to Vik | Our Journey Through Iceland’s Breweries & Brewhouses 🇮🇸

August 23, 2018 |

For the past nine months, Katie and I have been adventuring our way through Minnesota’s craft beer community. With more than 150 breweries and brewpubs to visit — last we heard that number was actually upwards of 180 now — we’ve been busy and content with what’s right here in our own backyard. But sometimes a new adventure calls, and when an opportunity to visit breweries in Iceland, Ireland, London and Paris came calling — we answered.

In truth, no one came calling for us; we just happened to be heading to Europe on a sort of one-year anniversary/bucket list trip. Still, we took advantage of our time abroad to visit some new taprooms, make some new friends and drink some new beers.

Hayes’ Public House | Where Irish Hospitality Meets Minnesota Nice

April 26, 2018 |

Located in the heart of Central Minnesota — a state known for its fierce Scandinavian pride — is a small Irish pub that almost seems out of place.

Hayes’ Public House provides the most authentic Irish experience some Minnesotans may ever have. And that’s the point. Owner and Head Brewer Pugs Hayes and his wife spent two months touring Ireland, absorbing as much of its culture as they could. With the help of friends and family, they recreated what they saw, heard, felt and tasted in a small brewery that has become the hub of Buffalo, MN.
