Indulgent Beer Series | Hubbard’s Cave Coffee & Cakes

Indulgent Beer Series | Hubbard’s Cave Coffee & Cakes
Stephanie Ward

Who says you can’t have your coffee and cakes… and drink them, too? The folks over at Hubbard’s Cave are here to prove that you can, in fact, do just that. This Chicago-based brewery has dished up something straight out of boozy brunch dreams and let’s just say: We’re here for it.

Hubbard’s Cave Coffee & Cakes Imperial Stout is for all the folks who have been patiently waiting for the colder temperatures so they could reach into the fridge for that decadent, dark beer with an ABV that may make you forget your mom’s name. Coffee & Cakes Imperial Stout pours jet-black in color and has a toasted aroma revealing the ingredients with which it is delicately brewed: coffee and maple syrup.

The first sip yields a mouthful of flavor but we would barely call this one a “sipper” (although sipping may not be a bad idea with a 12% ABV). The bitterness from the roasted coffee and the sweetness of the fresh maple syrup round this one out in a wonderful way.

Mercy Me and Pancakes for Three (or Four, or Five)

What better food to pair with this beer than a stack of pancakes? While a good old-fashioned box of Bisquick could do the trick, if you happen to be in the D.C. area and want to carry out a stack almost as high as your next-door neighbor, you may want to pop on over to Mercy Me. Their fluffy banana sourdough pancakes (featured in the image above) have a salted dulce de leche maple syrup and toasted hazelnuts. We’re not drooling, you are.
