Mt. Carmel Springtime Ale

March 8, 2013 |

Most of the Midwest just got what (we hope) is the last snow of the season. Not that we had that many to begin with. Before the storm, I went to my local grocery in search of something dark and delicious, and ended up bringing Mt. Carmel’s Springtime Ale instead. That’s not to say that it wasn’t delicious; however, this was the darkest beer I could find, so I was severely let down by my grocer’s selection.

Faking Adulthood | Hangover Cures

March 4, 2013 | 1

So, you’ve arrived in your 20s (or 30s or 40s… we’re not ageist here) and now it’s time to be an “adult.” Whatever that means, along with it comes this expectation that you suddenly, magically just know how to do things. Maybe you’ve led a life full of experiences already, or maybe Mom and Dad took care of everything for you as a kid and now you’re discovering that you don’t actually know how to function on your own; regardless, I’ll endeavor to find some key adult-type skills to help you at least pretend you’ve got your shit together. This week: hangover cures. (It just wouldn’t be fair of a beer blog to tell you about all the tasty drinks you can have without helping you to get through the next day.) Read More

BrewRiver GastroPub

February 21, 2013 | 1

I recently went on a first date to BrewRiver GastroPub in Cincinnati. Although it’s been open since last July, I just hadn’t found the time or the right company to enjoy it with until now. BrewRiver—aptly named since it sits along the Ohio River—gets on board with the local trend for all the right reasons. Their site states, “Supporting ‘local’ isn’t just about local food and drink. It’s also about the idea that when we support one another fully, there are no boundaries to consider and no lines to cross.” When I read that, I had a feeling I was in for a good experience.

Lessons Learned at Cincy Winter Beer Fest 2013

February 18, 2013 |

With the culmination of Cincinnati Beer Week, local beer aficionados headed to Duke Convention Center for the grande finale: Cincy Winter Beer Fest February 15-16. I went Friday night to snap some pictures knowing basically what was in store— a lot of beer, some new favorites, probably a little bit of hilarity— and when I left I had a night full of lessons captured on film. Here is a list of the top 5 things I learned at Cincy Winter Beer Fest, in photos.

Super Bowl Commercials Bingo

January 31, 2013 |

Be sure to check out our updated bingo boards for this year’s big game between the Broncos and the Seahawks!

Earlier this week, Mike Zoller brought you downloadable bingo cards for the big game. However, if you aren’t really into football, chances are you’ll still be watching the Super Bowl, if only for the commercials. A lot of companies have already released info about their planned ad campaigns, and we’ve used that info along with trends from previous years to piece together a second set of bingo cards for this Sunday.

Highland Brewing Co. | Black Mocha Stout

December 10, 2012 |

I was lucky enough to come across Highland Brewing Company‘s Black Mocha Stout on a recent trip through Asheville. Sadly, I didn’t spend much time in the city, but I did manage to get through the giant Biltmore Estate, sample a few wines, and grab some dinner. Read More

If You Haven’t Updated Your iPhone Yet… Maybe Don’t

What Apple was calling the ‘Most Powerful Mapping Service Ever’ has proven to be one of its biggest gaffs to date. The company rolled out a new Maps app as part of the iOS6 system update this week. The new app, however, reportedly contains many geographical errors and doesn’t include public transportation options in routing.

Republican and Democratic Tickets Officially Set

Last week, Romney received the Republican presidential nomination. This week it was Obama’s turn at the DNC. No big surprise that the POTUS accepted his nomination for a second term. But it happened. And Bill Clinton came out in support of Obama with a crowd-pleaser of a speech.

News Week in Review | Ryan, Assange, Heroin and a Dog

Paul Ryan named Romney Running Mate

Paul Ryan brings a youthfulness to the Romney campaign. Beyond that, Ryan’s entrance into the presidential race has created additional polarity—on both fiscal and social issues—in an already nasty race. There have been accusations flying back and forth across the political board, but for now, let’s focus on where this VP-hopeful sits on a couple of the issues.
