Sports | The Fall of Tiger
July 28, 2014 | Mike ZollerDespite not winning a major since 2008, Tiger Woods still commands the golfing world’s headlines. Despite Woods shooting his worst four-round score in a major for his career last weekend, we still talk about him. We’ll never stop talking about Woods as long as he plays golf, but his domination of the sport is clearly over… for now.

Festival Recap | United Tastes of Belgium 2014 – Wynkoop Brewing Co
July 21, 2014 | Cory PelcThe United Tastes of Belgium festival featured over 30 breweries showcasing their authentic Belgian beer recipes along with some American takes on Belgian style beers. These offerings were inspired by experimentation of styles such as barrel-aged, sour, wild ales, triples, quads and many more.
The event included unlimited tastes of Belgian Chocolates and Cheeses. For $30 bucks, you really can’t beat the unlimited pours, nibbles and noshes of an event like this. You can be jealous; its okay, its not your fault. Read More

Pop Culture Pet Peeves | “Which is Worse?”
July 10, 2014 | Drew TrollerYou know when you’re at a concert you’ve been looking forward to, and all those drunk and/or/loud and our tall people blocking your view take away the enjoyment? Or that guy who answers his cell phone during the movie trailers like it’s no big deal? Or those on-screen hashtags during your favorite show that are waaaay too distracting?
If you consume a lot of pop culture, you’ve inevitably had your experience ruined – either by the content itself, or the people with whom you consume it. So we’re taking an inventory here at PorchDrinking of what is THE WORST. The methodology is simple – list any two pop culture pet peeves, and ask, “WHICH IS WORSE?” It’s a collaboration of PorchDrinking pop culture experts, and debated/discussed civilly between my roommates after a night of drinking and watching TV. (LivingroomDrinking is like the pop culture offshoot of PorchDrinking). Here’s what we came up with… We welcome your votes, and your pet peeves we’ve missed.
PorchDrinking Playlist | Sunroof Open, Windows Down
July 8, 2014 | Kevin RisnerAfter years of not doing so, I decided in 2010 that the time was right to put together some of my favorite songs of the moment onto a CD. I would play these songs in my car as I drove around the city or along the interstate with the windows down, basking in the summer months and the sun and the warm weather.
It’s become a tradition now to do this every year. At the start of the year, I closely explore a variety of songs that might fit well together. Soon after I begin looking for summer-y songs, I notice a possible theme emanating from the endless songs I find or are recommended.

Awesomsauce | Baby Goats
July 3, 2014 | Laura Mego 1I have a confession: when I’m having a bad day, I turn turn to the internet to make me feel better. I have several go-to strategies, depending on what’s ailing me: WhiteWhine.com is for those days when the little things in life are going wrong; hangnail, bad day at work, no Chai Lattes at Starbucks…basically any day when my complaints could show up on the website to be (righfully) mocked for the first world problems that they are. If I need a little extra cheering up, I turn to PeopleofWalmart.com or AwkwardFamilyPhotos.com, so I can feel better about the fact that my mom gave me crimped hair for my 4th grade class photo, and then moved past it (read: didn’t continue to subject me to the same choices to this very day.) But when I’m having one of those days when even those two won’t make me smile, and when puppy videos just won’t cut it, I resort to YouTube…to baby goat videos. They can bring a smile to your face when almost nothing else can. Read More

The (Sometimes) Soccer Fan Who Knew Too Little
June 30, 2014 | Patrick MurrayFor all of its flaws, FIFA sure knows (Or is it FIFA sure know? All rules of subject/verb agreement seem to go out the window when we are talking international soccer.) the right time to schedule a soccer tournament to capture the sports consciousness of the United States. Baseball season has been here just long enough that the novelty has worn off, and we are finally without the winter sports playoffs to keep us occupied. What, exactly, as someone asked me earlier this week, would we be talking about if it were not for the World Cup? Read More
