Over 65 Colorado Breweries Creating Benefit Beer Colorado Strong IPA

November 3, 2021 |

During the initial phases of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the Colorado Brewers Guild (CBG) and the Left Hand Brewing Foundation joined forces to raise funds for the Colorado craft brewing industry by creating a benefit beer, Colorado Strong. For 2021, Colorado Strong returns as an India Pale Ale where proceeds will go towards the Colorado chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) as well as the CBG in support of membership fees and other CBG programs.

Since I’m writing this on International Women’s Day, I would be remiss if I didn’t thank all of my strong, creative female colleagues at PorchDrinking. Without them, this humble beer blog would be but a shadow of itself. Their hard work and dedication keeps this train on the tracks, and their fresh points of view help us keep our content fresh and relevant in an ever-changing world. I invite you all to raise a glass to them! Now, here’s some stuff I found on Twitter. This is The Weekly Buzz.

The Weekly Buzz | September 29 – October 5

October 6, 2017 |

I hear that there is some kind of beer festival in Denver this week, but I don’t want to discuss those things. OK, I do want to discuss those things, but I won’t because I’m jealous and spiteful. Somebody had to stay home and mind the store, so it may as well be me. Due to the grudge I’m choosing to hold, there will be no further mention of that festival. For everyone else who is stuck at home, here is The Weekly Buzz.

The Weekly Buzz | August 4 – 10

August 11, 2017 |

This was a crazy week in craft beer! It all started with International Beer Day on Friday. The week hit a critical mass of insanity when Funky Buddha (R.I.P.) was purchased by Constellation Brands and Magnolia Brewing was acquired by New Belgium (and partners). Also, let us not forget that I personally drank upwards of 12 beers. Slipping between the cracks of the more earth-shattering developments were plenty of event announcements, a few brewery anniversaries and a handful of job openings. Grab a beer and get ready to work on The Weekly Buzz.

Ultimate 6er | Halloween Beer Costumes

October 21, 2015 | 2

When I was a child, growing up in suburban New Jersey, there was a Halloween costume contest every year at the park around the corner from our house. The process involved walking around in a circle, with other eager trick-or-treaters, so the judges could get a load of everyone’s gear. The winner for each category received a $2 bill, exciting stuff for a 6-year-old in *cough cough* 1986. I am proud to say I won this contest for one category or another several times. Now that I’m an “adult” I’ll go out on a limb and wager it may have been rigged since my mom was the mayor of our town. But that’s not the point.

Ultimate 6er | Super Trooper Sixer

April 1, 2015 |

ABV: A LOT
IBU: Not bitter at all really

In college, after a night of fun, my roommates and I came home to a choice of two movies. Caddyshack or Super Troopers? Always a difficult decision, though I can say Super Troopers took the advantage by about 120 or so watchings. Between this time spent burning the script, verbatim, into my head, and the relatively equal time spent doing the same with my brother, its not unreasonable to state that 75% of the words exchanged between myself and my brother are 1 liners from Super Troopers. So, when the rumor mill started churning about a sequel, I may have gotten excited.

Once the rumor was replaced with fact, the chaps of Broken Lizard (the guys in the movie) told the world that the studio would produce it but not pay for it. So they launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo with a goal of $2 million in 30 days. And they hit that goal in ONE DAY. With perks like “one of the cop cars from the movie” and tickets to “join us at Beerfest,” it’s not exactly surprising.

The Lizards note that on a daily basis they are asked the question “Who wants a mustache ride?” Though Super Troopers was a low budget, indie film, there is clearly a rabid fan base here. So, in honor of the Troopers rocking success ($3.2 million as of this writing), today’s Ultimate 6er will be wrapped around the characters that made the first movie so damn funny. Ultimate 6er | Breaking New Year’s Resolutions

Left Hand Brewing – Black Jack Porter

April 16, 2014 |

English Style Porter
ABV: 6.4%

I’ve realized over the past year that porters, stouts and dark beer in general is where my taste buds find their happy place. And Left Hand Brewing seems to have my number as every brew I find from them becomes the liquid heaven we all search for in a beer. Plus, they seem to have more than enough choices in the deep, dark colored arena. So when I noticed this previously untasted option on the shelf, it was an easy choice.
