What We’re Drinking | July 30, 2020

What We're Drinking
Brandon Cohran

August is around the corner, and for many of you that likely means the end of summer and those wonderful autumn days are approaching. That is very much not the case here in Georgia. Things are looking up, though. Well kind of. There still continue to be many highs and lows of 2020 as sports are back, but conversations about whether or not and how to reopen schools, breweries and public spaces remain. Civil Rights leader and legend John Lewis passed away this week, leaving a legacy of pressing towards equality and continuing the narrative of fighting for civil and human rights. Rest in peace, Mr. Lewis. To celebrate getting through the week, here is What We’re Drinking.

2018 Cabernet Barrel Pirogue | Warped Wing Brewing Co.

This 2018 Pirogue aged in Cabernet barrels was one of the cellar treats I grabbed when Warped Wing opened their library earlier this spring. Fortunately, I got it while the crabapples were in bloom out back, so I was able to get these colors together. Speaking of pome fruit, there is definitely an orchard-y aroma and flavor in this two year bottle, with notes of overripe orchard fruit, a bit of earthiness, and some dry oak peeking through over time. I don’t think most folks tasting this blind would guess “black tripel” as the base, or even necessarily pick out the coffee. It’s all quiet rumors of flavor that build an intriguing whole. Later this evening I’ll post a chocolate pairing with this treat. #ohiobeer #ohiocraftbeer #drinkbeermadehere #drinkbeermadehereohio #drinkohiobeer #warpedwing #warpedwingbrewing #warpedwingbrewery #warpedwingbrewingcompany #shareapintmakeafriend #staywarped #inspiredbydayton #daytoninspires #937beer #coffeebeer #coffeebeers #coffeeale #beerphotography #beerphotographer #beertography #beertographer #beerlabelart #beerlabeldesign #winebarrelagedbeer #winebarrelaged

Nice summer afternoon to wear some socks and sandles and enjoy this Blonde Ale from @baddadbrewing. A bit grainy and citrusy with just enough hop bite to keep this no-nonsense 5.1% ABV blonde interesting. Very refreshing and smooth after some yard mowin'. And to top it off, it comes with a bad dad joke and I get to keep it cool with a tidy whities beer koozy. Full disclosure: I got to meet part of the dad and sons team who are responsible for this dadly tastiness via Zoom recently and they sent me some beer to try out. Currently only available in Indiana but it's worth the trip. I mean, they did recently make Best Brewery in Indiana in Travel Indiana mag… #craftbeer #dadbeer #dadjoke #socksandsandles #indianacraftbeer #hoosierbeer #midwestbeer #tidywhities #baddadbrewing #blondeale
