February – the dark, short month filled with Groundhog’s Day, Mardi Gras, that much-needed President’s Day Weekend and every four trips around the sun, the elusive Leap Year. Wait, am I forgetting something? Oh right, VALENTINE’S DAY. To commemorate Valentine’s Day, the divisive love-it or loath-it Hallmark holiday, here are six beer-infused Colorado and Oregon chocolate creations that, like a special Valentine, will always be there when you need them.

Winter in Colorado means trips up I-70 to your favorite ski mountain. After a long day on the mountain, nothing helps you relax and unwind more than a cold beverage, preferably a crisp and refreshing brewski (see what I did there?). This Ultimate 6er pairs six Colorado ski destinations with six delicious beers. Now, I could have taken the easy route by pairing mountains with their (awesome) local breweries. However, I wanted to get a little more creative instead, so I looked into certain resorts’ nicknames, runs, and mountains to really give PorchDrinkers six special pairings.
The week of Christmas is a time to curl up by the warm fire, cold brew in hand whilst watching something festive. We all have our go-to movies to watch around this time of year. Here are six beer and movie pairings to get PorchDrinkers in the holiday spirit!

Most people have a favorite flower, and mine just happens to be the iris. The iris flower is also the symbol of the Belgian city Brussels. This magnificent European metropolis was built on marshes and swamps, where fields of yellow irises grew in abundance. The yellow iris flower is even on the city’s flag. Brasserie Cantillon, founded in 1900, is located in Brussels, the Belgian capital.
This past Saturday afternoon I spent a couple of hours at Sanitas Brewing Company’s taproom where all 12 of their draft lines were flowing with sour, wild and barrel-aged beers.

Picture yourself walking up Mount Sanitas Trailhead in Boulder on a sunny, warm fall day. Your mind is clear and the air is fresh. All of a sudden, you ask yourself, “Am I losing my mind, or do I smell vanilla cupcakes?!”. This is the origin story of Wild Woods Brewery’s Ponderosa Porter as recounted to me by its female co-founder, Erin Evans.

Around this time of year, I usually start pining for Odell Brewing Company’s yearly offering of the Friek, a sour ale made with cherries and raspberries. However, Odell recently debuted another beer from their Cellar Series, the Piña Agria, and it’s all I want to drink right now.

Upslope Brewing Company in Boulder has collaborated with beverage-makers hailing from as far as Northern Italy. Their Ozo Coffee Brown Ale, however, hits a little closer to home. Upon opening their second brewing location in East Boulder, Upslope wasted no time in collaborating with one of its new neighbors: Ozo Coffee Company. Ozo, another Boulder-based business, operates a café and roasting lab directly adjacent to Upslope’s Flatiron Park location. What resulted in this union is a liquid love child consisting of a two-time GABF medal winner and a massive amount of coffee beans. I was lucky enough to sit down with Upslope’s head brewer Sam Scruby to taste and discuss the origin of this roasty libation.
