August 13, 2013 | Tristan ChanWhether they’re loving, protective, annoying or all of the above, brothers are still family, and as the Avett Brothers so eloquently stated, “Always remember there was nothing worth sharing like the love that let us share our names.” Here’s a brothers playlist for those with whom we share our names.

Roundtable Discussion: Alternative to Shark Week
August 7, 2013 | Tristan ChanNow it it’s 25 years of terrorizing baby seals and wayward beach-goers, Shark Week has perhaps waded it’s way through one too many chum-filled murky waters. So we asked our writers, if they were to choose another being or object to devote an entire week towards, what would be the best alternative to shark week? Share your suggestions below as well!

Goose Island Migration Week
July 24, 2013 | Tristan Chan 4I’ve always said taste trumps all. But that creed can become a bit muddled when it comes to the distinction between craft and macro. Don’t get me wrong, while many purists are staunchly against the macro companies, like Anheuser-Busch InBev and Miller-Coors, including any brands they own, I’m not specifically in that camp. While there are still issues of beer bullying, distribution and marketing wars, when it comes to the actual product, I believe any form of beer, even “crafty” beer, can serve as a gateway to true craft beer. Which brings us to Goose Island Migration Week.
PorchDrinking Playlist: Underrated Bands
July 23, 2013 | Tristan ChanFinding great music can be daunting. But even more daunting is for great artists to break through the clutter and really find traction on the airwaves. While sifting through my musical libraries for this list of underrated bands, I realized that I first started listening to most of these in college. I’m not sure if that means I had awesome musical tastes in college or awful musical tastes, I choose to believe the prior.
The Lone Bellow
July 16, 2013 | Tristan ChanThere’s always something magical about seeing a band play Red Rocks Amphitheater, whether it’s for the first time or the 237th (it seems like Blue’s Traveller has played RR every July 4th since the signing of the Declaration of Independence). The Lone Bellow aren’t exactly strangers to arguably the greatest music venue in the nation. In fact, it was only two months ago that they opened during a screening of Film on the Rocks, but that wouldn’t dampen (figuratively) their excitement, energy or sound Saturday night when they performed with the likes of Blind Pilot and Brandi Carlile.
The Oh Hello’s
July 1, 2013 | Tristan ChanI don’t usually deal in sweeping proclamations, ok maybe I do, but if there is one band to see in person this summer, it’s the Oh Hello’s. The brother and sister duo of Tyler and Maggie Heath out of San Marcos, Texas form the core of an 11 person ensemble, that produces a robust, soulful, indie folk sound, reminiscent of Of Monsters and Men, The Head and the Heart and the Lumineers.
