Summer is upon us after a jarring first half of 2025 that has left the brewing industry in more uncertain terms than ever before, looking to the next half with a perspicacious eye. The sheer volume of the unknown with global politics is not helped by a 4% segment drop in 2024, according to statistics put out by the Brewers Association. Instead of trying to peer into a crystal ball, let’s discuss something that is somewhat more tangible: the psychological trap that brewers, consumers, and industry experts fall into, known as the End of History Illusion.

When Obakeng Malope launched her highly ambitious Beer is Art project back in 2022, her focus was on raising money to educate young people in South Africa about the art of brewing, offering them career opportunities in the burgeoning South African craft beer market.
While she gathered international and local collaborators to her cause, Malope was always keen to stress the significance of brewing in African culture, specifically the cultural importance of traditional sorghum-based Bojalwa jwa Setswana, or Umqombothi, which is brewed by women, including Malope’s grandmother.

BREAKING | 2025 World Beer Cup Results Announced

The largest international competition for craft beer has crowned its newest class of medal winners.
This year’s 2025 World Beer Cup awards took on Thursday, May 1, 2025, in Indianapolis, IN, as part of the yearly Craft Brewers Conference. Launched by the Brewers Association in 1996 to celebrate brewing and brewers across the world, the World Beer Cup is often referred to as “The Olympics of Beer Competitions.”
Colorado Breweries Win Big at 2025 World Beer Cup Awards

It was another impressive showing for the Centennial State at the 2025 World Beer Cup competition, as many Colorado breweries once again earned top marks. Often referred to as the Olympics of Beer Competitions, the World Beer Cup features breweries from across the world vying for medals.
This year’s competition featured 8375 entries from 1761 breweries and cideries across 49 countries entered into 112 beer categories, 5 cider categories, and Colorado’s contingent showed out in a MAJOR way, taking home 21 medals from 16 breweries, including 8 gold medals.

Despite serving as a hotbed for Chinese immigrants who helped construct the transcontinental railroad in the 1860s, Colorado hasn’t had the best history in embracing Asian culture. This brewery team—like many others in recent installments—were quick to show their support for Alex Kidd. Their dedicated effort included an exclusive, draft-only reincarnation of their Bayonet barleywine to help raise money for Alex Kidd and his family.
