The Weekly Buzz | June 8 – 14

June 15, 2018 |

Today is my eighth consecutive day of work. Six of those days were 12-hour shifts. I work another 12-hour day tomorrow. I’m tired. I’m cranky. There hasn’t been enough beer in my diet, so definitely send some of that my way. My social media time was limited, but I gladly burned the candle at both ends for you, my dedicated readers. Raise a pint for me, and enjoy The Weekly Buzz.

Abita Brewing Company | Horchata Turbodog

February 12, 2018 |

The world of limited releases is vast, and usually you have a good reason to go after them. Maybe you’re so into the brewery that you post up 12 hours before opening in order to snag it on opening day. Maybe you’re attempting to try every rice beer made in the tri-state area and if you can’t get your hands on this you’ll never be complete. Sometimes, like my trial of Abita‘s Horchata Turbodog, there’s just a beer that looks like your pup at the Mexican grocery store you go to to stock up for a snowstorm. No matter what path you take to find Horchata Turbodog, there’s a cozy dark ale waiting for your taste buds to nestle into it.

Ultimate 6er | Fruit Beers II: Taste the Rainbow

May 27, 2015 |

While gay acceptance has been steamrolling through America in the last three decades, gay bars haven’t been as quick to welcome the plethora of new options in craft beers, sticking mostly to your tried and true macro brews with an occasional hometown hero in the mix. I personally blame vodka lobbyists and a vast lite beer Illuminati conspiracy for the dearth of options.

With that in mind I thought the time was perfect to create a Rainbow Collection of fruit beers to keep you cool in the heat and keep the party going wherever you are, be it parade route, dance floor, sports bar, hanging out at home or in line to buy a genuine silver buckle at Charlie’s Denver. Real Talk: who’s buying a belt buckle at 1 a.m.? Inquiring minds want to know.

Cooking with Beer | Pecan Caramel Apple Crisp

October 16, 2014 | 1

Welcome to apple-pickin’ season. Even though I picked these apples right off the supermarket shelf, I used to love nothing more than visiting my local orchard and stocking up on this fall harvest fruit. I would make apple pies, caramel apples, apple streusels… the list goes on and on (do I sound like Bubba from Forest Gump yet?). This time around, I opted for the classic apple crisp. It is easy to make and the results are sure to impress. I have had the idea for apple crisp in my head for a while now; pretty much since I saw Abita’s Pecan Harvest Ale on the shelves. First off, I had never heard of a pecan ale so I was basically obligated to buy it. Second, I knew it would be the perfect brew to make some sort of delicious dessert. So a delicious dessert I made and now you can too with this Pecan Caramel Apple Crisp recipe.
