Magic Hat and West Sixth Brewery Conflict

It is becoming more and more evident that the craft beer industry is no longer just giggles and unicorns.  Today it was announced in Business Lexington that the latest case of brewery versus brewery litigation came in the form of Magic Hat Brewing Company,  claiming that West Sixth Brewery in Lexington, KY intentionally copied their logo and has caused them “irreparable harm”.  They are now seeking damages and all profits made by West Sixth up until this point.

What I’m enjoying now: AV Club’s fourth series of “AV Undercover” is now underway.

So far, we’ve had ZZ Ward cover Frank Ocean, Yo La Tengo cover the Supremes and Night Beds cover Robyn.  BTW, call your girl friend. It’s probably time you had the talk.  But by far, my favorite was Frontier Ruckus, whom I have never heard of, cover “Semi-Charmed Life” by a little up-and-coming band called Third Eye Blind.  And that’s just a sample of what to come.  They invite bands to play a song on their list of 25.  As the season goes, the list grows smaller, forcing the bands into fun little creative corners.  On this years list?  Billy Ocean.  Backstreet Boys.  New Radicals.  It is enjoyable.  You should partake.

Pop Culture Week in Review 3/15-3/22 Jimmy Fallon to Tonight Show?

…and I’m pretty ok with that.  HBO has declined to renew the Laura Dern series for a third season.  I haven’t watched the second season yet but I really found the first season (which I watched in full) completely insufferable.  I really wanted to like it- Mike White! Luke Wilson! The occasional Jason Mantzoukas! But her stupid hippy dippy voice overs drove me up the wall, across the ceiling and down the other wall to crash land on the floor in a fit of rage.  But anyway its cancelled so it doesn’t matter.

Pop Culture Week in Review: February 16-22

So the Grammys happened…remember?

I know Tristan already did a breakdown of the show, but I love the Grammys so you will hear what I have to say.  I don’t give a shit about the awards themselves but the performances are usually bananas.  I’m still talking about the Mumford/Avett/Dylan performance from two years ago.  But this year, no trapeze.  No weird eggs.  And seriously not enough Beyonce.  Ok, so apparently I just want it to be 2011 again.  At least then we wouldn’t have to deal with LL Cool J or his silly hats.  You’re not hiding anything from anyone- Just be bald.  Own it.  And I know they weren’t your fault exactly, but you could have chosen not to make a “Grandma/Grammy” or a “Fun. is fun” joke.  We are the choices we make, sir.
