The Best of San Francisco Beer Week 2017

March 14, 2017 |

Sadly, San Francisco beer week is over. It was another incredible week, full of amazing events and new and innovative beers. Pounds were gained, work was neglected, but it was all worth it. From the Opening Gala to the last day, Beer Week was loaded more than any prior year. Each day had more events for any one person to handle, but that is the beauty of Beer Week.

RateBeer Best is the kind of event that you look forward to all year. The lineup of breweries was insane, and the festival did not disappoint.

Almanac Taproom and Big Rec Taproom Open in San Francisco’s East Mission District

January 10, 2017 |

I am pretty lucky to live in San Francisco and be completely surrounded by an un-ending host of great breweries and beer bars. However, a few weeks ago in late-December SF … Read More

2 Days, 2 Nights | San Francisco’s Craft Beer Scene

November 30, 2016 |

Two days and two nights in San Francisco is not enough time to see all they have to offer, and this guide will give you more than enough to do in two days. For the purposes of this article, I will assume you do not have a car and intend to stay within the city limits.

Mother Road Brewing Co. | Tower Station IPA

November 25, 2016 |

ABV: 7.3% | IBU: 70

I am stepping out of my usual domain a bit here, but a recent trip to Arizona required I write about an Arizona beer. In the week we spent between Scottsdale, Sedona and Flagstaff I was extremely surprised to see how much the beer scene had grown. Scottsdale and the entire Phoenix area had a tom of new breweries. Arizona Wilderness stood out and is worthy of its own article, however I was even more surprised to see what was brewing in Flagstaff. My favorite brewery in town was Mother Road Brewing Co.

Sierra Nevada Brewing Company | Torpedo Extra IPA

October 12, 2016 |

ABV: 7.2%  |  IBU: 65

I have written my last couple reviews on some hard to get IPAs (the kind that you have to wait in line for and are gone within a matter of hours), so I figured it makes sense to write about a more readily available brew.

Cellarmaker Brewing Company | Double Dobis

September 21, 2016 |

ABV: 8.2% | IBU: 86

Cellarmaker Brewing Company burst on the San Francisco beer scene in 2013 and has been brewing some of the best beers on the West Coast ever since (especially their pales and IPAs). Cellarmaker tends to rotate through beers quickly, and rarely brings back the same beer twice, especially in short order.  But, there are exceptions to every rule.

In June, Cellarmaker bottled their Double Dobis beer. Cellarmaker recently started bottling one beer a month, and they are always out of this world. Double Dobis was no exception. Read More

Monkish Brewing Company | Really Real Double IPA

September 1, 2016 |

ABV: 8.3% | IBU: 75

Beer trading has seemingly taken off in the last year or so with the increased focus on limited release brews. Treehouse Brewing and Tired Hands are brewing hugely sought after beers from the East Coast, however a contender has arisen from California, making waves with their own New England style, hazy IPAs. That brewery is Monkish Brewing Company and that beer is Really Real Double IPA. Read More

Event Preview | ThirstyBear Organic Brewery Celebrates 20 Years

August 24, 2016 |

Surviving as a brewpub in San Francisco for 20 years is tough. Switching to an organic brewpub for the last 10 years is even more difficult. Both of these milestones are reason to celebrate, and that is exactly what ThirstyBear Organic Brewery is doing this weekend. Read More

Anchor Brewing Company | Go West! IPA

July 13, 2016 |

ABV: 6.7% | IBU: 75

In my first article for PorchDrinking.com, it only makes sense for me to write about a San Francisco IPA, more specifically Go West! IPA. Although the options are somewhat endless, with new breweries opening seemingly every week, I had to start with San Francisco’s oldest brewery. It just so happens, Anchor Brewing Company is located just a few blocks away from my home. Read More
