Forget Reality, and Give Me the Cubbie Blue Pill | Chicago Cubs Opening Day

March 31, 2014 |

Although the weather in the Eastern half of the United States continues to defy what the calendar proclaims, today is Opening Day.  For Chicago Cubs supporters such as me, this year promises to be the fifth straight season of following a team without contention aspirations.  Despite the promise of various minor league talents that could make their major league debuts this summer, the general expectation is that this Cubs season will closely follow this script. Ultimate 6er – The Kentucky Wildcats

March 19, 2014 |

Everyone who loves craft beer has a soft spot for their favorite college watering hole. While I attended the University of Kentucky (Go Big Blue), I found Pazzo’s. With a location only a few minutes from the student center, pint nights that provide free drinking glasses with the purchase of a pitcher, and around 150 beers I enjoyed many delicious beverages while I watched my beloved Kentucky Wildcats.  Here are a few notable mentions.

Undefeated but Untested

February 24, 2014 |

Have you heard? There is only one unbeaten team left in Division-I men’s basketball this season. It’s the mighty Wichita State Shockers from the Missouri Valley Conference. The Shockers have been dominant this season. They rolled through their non-conference schedule and have had little resistance during their conference slate. They are currently ranked #2 in the country. If they keep this up they will most likely earn a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. But despite their ranking and all of these wins, I’m not sold on the Shockers just yet.

Four Things to Drink In This, The Worst Time of the Year for Sports

February 20, 2014 | 4

February– it’s the worst, right? A month so devoid of meaning, fun, and intrigue that it was docked two days and given a holiday on which couples flaunt their happiness over single people (this is said with all due respect to Black History Month, which we can all agree got the shaft by being placed in February). The Super Bowl has occurred, thus ending football and now all that is left are some college basketball games of marginal importance before March Madness, a bunch of utterly meaningless NBA action, and the scrapbooking convention of sporting events that is the Winter Olympics. Oh, and hockey, I suppose, though here in Ohio I’m more likely to be hit by a Justin Bieber-expelled loogie than meet an ardent supporter of the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Five Winter Olympic Sports That Scare Me To Death

February 17, 2014 |

I know I might draw some ire right off the bat with this statement, but I think the Winter Olympics are more exciting to watch than the Summer Olympics. There are so many more obscure and untraditional events during the winter that you only see once every four years. Don’t get me wrong, I love the summer games as well, but it consists of events you’re much more likely to see when the Olympics aren’t going on.

Three “Must See” Sporting Events IF You Call Yourself a Sports Fan

February 11, 2014 |

So you call yourself a sports fan? The Super Bowl hangover commonly refers to the Monday morning after the Super Bowl; however, from a sports fan’s perspective this refers to the down time between the end of football season and the beginning of NCAA March Madness. But this year especially, I am here to tell you that your sporting fanhood should be rejoicing, not pouting. Here are three things you need to be watching if you call yourself a sports fan.

Super Bowl Sunday is always a wonderful time to get together with friends while enjoying delicious food and beer. Whether a football fan or not, people love an excuse to celebrate. NCAA Basketball Midseason Update

January 20, 2014 |

As many have expected, things at the top have experienced somewhat of a shakedown. The Buckeyes have lost 3 in a row after being one of the few remaining undefeated teams. They’ve recently suffered losses to Michigan State and Minnesota on the road and Iowa at home. OSU will look to get back on track against Nebraska on Monday for their second win against the Cornhuskers this season.
