SweetWater Brewing Co. | Dank Tank Fresh Sticky Nugs, Hazy Imperial IPA

October 18, 2017 | Avg. Reading Time: 2 min

SweetWater Brewing Company turns the dank dial to the max with their latest Dank Tank Fresh Sticky Nugs. Let’s all take a moment and remember the first time we tried an intensely hoppy IPA. The bracing bitterness and intense aromas that felt so dominating back then are not as common today. Sure, part of that is due to acclimating to the hops but also the trend away from the classic hop varietals to more boutique and less bitter hop strains. But Fresh Sticky Nugs delivers the nostalgia in spades!

SweetWater Brewing Company | Dank Tank Pulled Porter

December 26, 2016 | Avg. Reading Time: 3 min

ABV: 7.7%

BBQ is a deeply rooted tradition in the south. SweetWater Brewing Company asks the question we all truly want answered. Does BBQ make everything better? Settle down there is no meat or thick BBQ sauce in Pulled Porter. Rather, Nick Nock and the rest of the brewing staff at SweetWater Brewing Co. decided to smoke some of the malt for this beer. I’ll repeat that because it really is heavenly to read. Nick Nock and the SweetWater Brewing Co.’s brewing staff decided to take some of their base malt down to Fox Brothers BBQ, one of Atlanta’s top BBQ spots, and smoke that malt and then make Pulled Porter. Genius!

Atlanta Braves Announces Terrapin Taproom & ATL Brew Lab

October 20, 2016 | Avg. Reading Time: 2 min

Way back on November 11, 2013, if you listened closely, you heard the collective gasp as the Atlanta Braves announced their move to a soon-to-be built stadium in Cobb County, 10 miles north of downtown. With the Atlanta Braves having spent the past fifty seasons plying their trade in basically the same spot just south of the city, reactions to the move were mixed. Loyalists grumbled, northsiders rejoiced. Read More

Event Recap | Orpheus Brewing’s 2nd Anniversary

May 31, 2016 | Avg. Reading Time: 2 min

From inception, Orpheus Brewing, and head brewer Jason Pellett, have brewed under the philosophy “don’t look back.” This, as Jason has stated, is because the goals are always ahead of you, and as mythology’s Orpheus learned, looking back can lead you astray (or more specifically, lose your wife Eurydice back to Hades when abandoning your faith and looking back to ensure she was still following you out).

And obviously, brewing forward-reaching beers, while staying laser focused on future goals has worked extraordinarily well at Orpheus, as the brewery continues to fill any and all gaps in beer styles available in Atlanta. Read More

8 Georgia Beers to Drink This Spring

April 28, 2016 | Avg. Reading Time: 3 min

Georgia in spring is both a blessing and a curse. The drenching humidity is still a few weeks away, so for now you can still enjoy your drinks on the patio — that is, if you can tolerate patios, window sills, cars, running shoes, and everything else being covered with a fuzzy blanket of yellow pollen.

Whether your spring drinking spot is outdoors or cozied up to a bar — safe from allergies and early spring sunburn — these are the eight Georgia beers to try right now.

SweetWater 420 Fest | Mouthwatering Beer and Cheese Pairings

April 25, 2016 | Avg. Reading Time: 4 min

The 3-day long SweetWater 420 Festival in Atlanta has become a celebration of music, Mother Earth and Georgia’s largest brewery.

Tucked in between the two larger music stages, you’ll find the SweetWater Experience tent, where beer education — and special one-offs that you often won’t taste anywhere else – live. Home brew sessions, visits from hop farmers, and Q&As with SweetWater Co-Founder and Chairman Freddy Bensch are featured, but the most popular event each year is the beer and cheese pairing.

Atlanta probably doesn’t top your “must visit” cities for a beercation — but it should. The creativity, positivity and diversity of Georgia brewers is just as worthy of your hard-earned beer budget money as, say, a trip to Tampa/St. Pete or Chicago.

SweetWater 420 Fest | 7 Reasons Rain Couldn’t Stop This Party

April 21, 2015 | Avg. Reading Time: 2 min

The SweetWater 420 Fest rolled into downtown Atlanta April 17-19 — and so did big time thunderstorms.

It had rained in Atlanta every single day of the week leading up to the festival’s kick-off Friday. The weather left Centennial Olympic Park, home of the 1996 Summer Olympics, a virtual mud pit. Even the walkways were a slip ’n slide of muck.
