Rumor has it that several of the world’s beer companies have replaced their shiny silver tanks with cauldrons, allowing brewing witches worldwide to put a spell on the beer community. This year’s skulltimate 13er reminds us all that beer can both be a tasty treat and full of fun tricks – enjoy your spooky Halloween brews this year!
Vacations are ending, and school is starting back. That can only mean one thing: summer is ending and 2022 isn’t slowing down at all. That’s alright, though, because the last quarter of the year means good weather, football and big beers. Most of the time anyway. Before we get ahead of ourselves and send summer sailing, let’s all raise a glass one more time for the staff favorite beers of August.
Welcome to the first Friday of November. Seriously, where has this year gone? Hopefully everyone had a fun and safe Halloween and an uneventful and safe election day. Thanks to the chaotic nature of politics in recent history, anytime I hear election I want to grab a beer. So without further ado, this is what we’re drinking.
While there has been a significant amount of discussion about how women should or should not be portrayed in advertising and social media, it’s refreshing to focus on women behind the lens. By browsing social media these days, it’s easy for a craft beer enthusiast to discover numerous examples of their work, and that’s great news for an industry that greatly struggles with equality. Women are involved in every aspect of the craft-beer business, and photography serves as an excellent demonstration of how their efforts have provided a boost to the entire industry.
The following highlights just a few of the professionals helping to advance the craft beer scene with their photography.
Whether it’s the defining scene in your favorite show, the climactic mission in one of your favorite games, or the beer you order at your local pub, we all have our holy grails that set the standard.
These beloved experiences evoke a certain sense of nostalgia for a lot of us. For me, sitting around and sharing a bomber with my closest friends is one of the best things there is, no matter how often it happens. Immersing yourself in video game stories is no different. The carefully crafted worlds, narratives, action sequences and emotional decisions can impact the gamer for years to come.
120 Minute IPA has been on my white whale beer list for a while, up there with Utopias and Pliny the Younger. So when I happened to find a bottle at random in a liquor store near my house, I was extremely surprised and needless to say I bought it immediately. Being I’m on the opposite side of the country from where its made, it’s a rare find for me at least.
“If someone with a peanut allergy walked into a restaurant and told the chef she/he couldn’t have peanut oil, you wouldn’t hear the chef tell her/him that it’s peanut-reduced and it’s totally safe because it’s only a small percentage. The …
Spring is officially in full swing and summer is just right around the corner. It’s the perfect time of the year to get outside and do some exploring. Three things that go well together this time of the year are the great outdoors, hiking and (of course) beer. After reading this, grab some of your favorite beers, find some trails and get up into the mountains.
I may or may not have watched Beyoncé’s Coachella performance that premiered on Netflix multiple times. I can’t help it, she was incredible. The band and dancers were unbelievable. I can’t imagine how awesome that must have been live. We also learn that her discipline to prepare did not include beer, which makes sense even though that brings a tear to every craft beer lover’s eye. It’s okay Queen B, we have been drinking for you. Turns out myself and the PorchDrinkers are not preparing for a huge music festival performance, so bring on the beers in this weeks What We’re Drinking.
Usually a crazy, spontaneous weekend starts with a beer. In this case, it ended with one… or two. During football season, an unplanned game was the last move of the fun weekend, and tailgate time was cut short so a quality beer was needed stat! Orange Blossom Pilsner 2 was found through the crazy rush to make it to the game and since then, it’s been a staple in my fridge.
You made it through the first full week of the year! Pat yourself on the back, or better yet, pour yourself a beer. I started off my first week paddle boarding and hanging out with friends at the sandbar, and I’m ending my week going to an infamous beer festival in Fort Lauderdale. This year has treated me well and I love highlighting the best moments in between grad school and work. We are all about that life-work balance at PorchDrinking, and we would love to share some fine beers to lead you in the right direction.
