If you donut know, National Donut Day is today (June 7)! For all you beer lovers out there who indulge in a donut every now and then, perhaps with an emphasis on the “now,” here’s a pairing that will make your taste buds dance in joy.
There’s always some fun in pairing various foods, sweets, desserts, etc. with various different types of beers. This particular pairing puts an emphasis on the sweet. The dough-y fried/baked goodness that is a donut is such a sweet treat to enjoy on all occasions. So, in preparation for National Donut Day, we hit up Voodoo Doughnuts and raided the beer fridge to create this perfect pairing.
January 23rd marks National Pie Day. For us beer lovers, it’s just another chance to create a fun pairing between food and delicious craft beer! For me, the idea came about after having visited WeldWerks for the first time. At the time, I’d make weekly trips up to the Boulder Farmer’s Market. There was one stand in particular that I’d make a guaranteed stop at, and that is My Mom’s Pies; they make some of the best pies I’ve tasted my entire life. One day, it hit me as I was enjoying WeldWerks’ Brambleberry Sour: why not enjoy a nice pie for dessert alongside a delicious beer? So, the experiments began. Here are a few pairings that stood out to me:
There has been a steady rise in the popularity of the bière de table in the last several years and if you have difficulty pronouncing it like I did, the English translation is table beer. This Belgium-style beer is designed and brewed for easy drinking. It’s a very balanced and simple recipe designed to cleanse the palate in between bites at the dinner table. With its low alcohol level, you can casually drink this throughout the day.
While Fort Collins has long been a beer destination of national stature, the emergence of the city’s dining scene has been a more recent phenomenon. An expanding collection of well-received indigenous eateries, supplemented by an influx of offshoots of established restaurants rooted elsewhere in the state, has contributed to an energized local food culture.
While chocolate is easily the most associated food and drink item with Valentine’s Day, the BeerShop has found a way to bring craft beer into the celebration.
