Duvel’s Perfect Pour Contest, is one of several recurring events that Duvel hosts throughout the year to drive participation and excitement for the legacy brand. This was the first time the Perfect Pour Contest was held in Birmingham, Alabama. Read More
Hutton & Smith Brewing Co. | The Promenade IPA
December 22, 2020 | Brian HaitzHutton & Smith, a brewery “fanatically dedicated” to the art of creating craft beer, shows their stuff with this hazy IPA, The Promenade. This beer is juicy, tropical and cloudy with a delicate balance of bitterness – a true hazy treat for any hop lover.
Pontoon Brewing Company | Extra Extra Irish Extra Stout
May 29, 2020 | Brandon CohranImagine going to your favorite local liquor store, before COVID-19 or even now (as safely able), and standing in front of the beer wall. It’s a beautiful sight. There are seemingly hundreds of options from every color to any design imaginable. Some simple, some intricate. This was my experience with Pontoon Brewing Company’s Extra Extra Irish Extra Stout as the simplicity of the label grabbed my attention among the plethora of options.

Grumpy Old Men Brewing Company | Aska Pale Ale
June 27, 2017 | John Baum 1ABV: 5.8%
Almost as refreshing as their beer is the attitude that Steve Weber and Chipley McKnight bring to the modern day craft beer industry. They are the two grumpy old men behind Grumpy Old Men Brewing in Blue Ridge, Georgia, and they are not looking to be hip or game changers. Nor are they interested in some of the funkier trends that tend to occupy the minds of today’s craft beer maestros.
Omaha Brewing Company | Hannahatchee Creek IPA
June 7, 2017 | John BaumABV: 6.6% | IBU: 53.3
Once upon a time, there was a dentist who lived in Omaha, Georgia. Much like a molar’s roots function to secure the tooth, Doctor Robert Lee’s familial roots kept him in Omaha. I will not apologize for the tooth analogy. Doc Lee, as he was known around town, wasn’t going anywhere, and he decided Omaha needed a bit of a boost. Read More

Second Self Beer Company | Manic Pixie Dream Beer #1
April 18, 2017 | John BaumABV: 13.9% | IBU: 64
Atlanta’s Second Self Beer Company sent me two cans of Manic Pixie Dream Beer #1. At first, I didn’t want to try them. Same beer, slightly different artwork on each can, and enough of a singular nature to this that I felt like I should keep it in mint condition. After all, it could be worth something in the future. But then again, they aren’t Beanie Babies. They’re cans of beer. So in I went.

Beer & Book Club | Man Alive!
March 16, 2017 | John BaumThe second installment of the PorchDrinking’s Beer and Book Club will be a tad different from the first. Although, I’ve been in two book groups, and I’ve even started one, they don’t work for me. Turns out, I prefer a solitary read and perhaps an impromptu conversation that results from the surprise of realizing someone else also enjoys the same authors and books as me. My favorite reading spot is in an upstairs room at home with my two dogs, a comfortable chair and a beer fridge. Maybe I’ve stumbled on to the perfect book club.
I digress.

Event Preview | 13th Annual Atlanta Cask Ale Tasting
January 19, 2017 | John BaumThis year’s 13th Annual Atlanta Cask Ale Tasting event is a first for me. I’ve never attended a beer event that instructs you on dress code, but the folks at ACAT advise patrons to bring a hat and gloves.
Scofflaw Brewing Co. | Interrogation Coffee Milk Stout
January 18, 2017 | John BaumABV: 6.8% | IBU: 75
In high school, a party was a form of subversion, a rebellion, it was when you began to test the limits. It had it’s moments. The college party was more a celebration of freedom (see “Stair Diving” from 1984’s Revenge of the Nerds), and more testing of limits, but without the threat (or thrill?) of getting caught, it was merely a party for party’s sake.
