Tristan Chan

Tristan is a craft beer fanatic who originally hails from Kentucky, which used to be a veritable wasteland for craft beer. Since moving to Colorado, he discovered a passion for hops, malts, brett strains, tinctures, nitros, and all things craft brew. He created this blog as a means for his friends across the country to a virtual porch drink and he hopes that you’ll join the revolution.

PorchDrinking Playlist: Best Movie Soundtracks

February 19, 2013 |

Sometimes the best movie soundtracks can help enhance the cinematic experience, and sometimes it can define it. In honor of this Sunday’s Academy Awards, we compiled a list of iconic movie soundtracks that had a profound impact on the films they were featured in. And while it may seem from the start to be a John Williams love fest, the man is a savant when it comes to composing cinematic scores. As always if we left any out, we’d love for you to share them in the comments section of the post!

Beercade: Beer Dispensing Arcade Game

February 19, 2013 | 2

Yeah you read that right… it’s a beer dispensing arcade game.  Just when you thought the only people who played video games were World of Warcraft addicts who drank Bawls Sodas and wore adult diapers, McKinney ad agency created something that having you dusting off your joystick and adding gigs to your hard drive.

Roundtable Discussion: What are you giving up for Lent?

February 13, 2013 |

The Lenten holiday is upon us so we thought we’d find out just “what are you giving up for lent?”. As we found out yesterday, Nate will be giving up all other beverages besides water, so we asked our staff, what would be the absolute worst thing to have to give up for 40 days. Share your responses in the comments section below!

The Grammys Recap

February 11, 2013 |

Last night’s Grammys was amazing.  In what was a brilliant mix of part old school comebacks, part indie folk taking center stage, and part Katy Perry’s boobs, we saw awesome performances from Justin Timberlake, Kelly Clarkson, The Black Keys, Mumford and Sons, and Frank Ocean. It was really awesome to see recognition for truly talented artists like the Alabama Shakes, Frank Ocean  and the Lumineers and less focus on your traditional pop performers. Here’s your Grammy’s recap quick hits.

Country Boy Brewing Anniversary Celebration

February 8, 2013 |

If you’ve been followers of PorchDrinking you’ll know that we’re the biggest advocates for innovative upstart breweries who love to push the boundary on what can be accomplished with craft beer. You’ll also know that Country Boy Brewing is the perfect case study of accomplishing just that.  Today we wish Country Boy Brewing a very happy first anniversary.  While they typically feature several guest beers to accompany a healthy lineup of their own, this weekend to celebrate their first birthday, all 24 taps will feature Country Boy brews including Black Gold Porter aged in Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels.

Happy Chinese New Year

February 6, 2013 | 4

This Sunday is Chinese New Year, why is that relevant… well I’m Chinese and so is a majority of the world’s population. In honor of the upcoming year of the snake I thought I’d give you a little (not so little) introduction to Chinese food in America. I must start out by saying that this entry is entirely about food, more specifically Chinese food.  So if for some bizarre reason you have an unfathomable aversion to eating, you should sit this one out, or put on eyemuffs for the next few paragraphs.

Wild Woods Brewery’s Berry Patch Wheat

February 6, 2013 |

Wild Woods Brewery’s Berry Patch Wheat is exactly what I’ve been looking for. You see it’s a gateway beer.  It’s the perfect beer to convert any tepid beer novice. Whenever I hear people casually sputter out the phrase “I don’t like beer” it feels like a mini heart attack turned mega aneurism. It’s like saying I don’t like cheese, or ice cream or America.

Beginners Guide to Watching the Super Bowl

February 1, 2013 |

Lets face it, not everyone is an avid football fan. Heck even the most diehard football fanatics may not be fully into this game, and for good reason. For some, the Super Bowl can be considered a religious experience, and for most it’s an excuse for a Sunday Funday with mildy entertaining commercial breaks. But no matter what, you dont want to be that “guy” who ruins the party. I’ve comprised a list of do’s and don’ts to make sure you aren’t the odd one out while watching the Super Bowl.

Mountain Sun Brewing’s Stout Month is coming. And as the immortal Samuel L. Jackson once said, “Hold on to your butts.” Every year, amidst the cold bitter winter months shines a beacon of hope and happiness. This year marks the 20th anniversary of Stout Month for the Mountain Sun family and it promises to be bigger, bolder and more stout than ever (see what I did there?)

Roundtable Discussion: If I Were President…

January 23, 2013 | 1

With this week’s Presidential Inauguration we thought we’d task our writers to share what their first (non-political) act would be if they were elected president of the United States.  Of course this meant living out a number of ridiculous childhood dreams as well as the conversation spinning out of control into a West Wing love fest.  Let us know what your first presidential move would be in the comments section below!

PorchDrinking Playlist: Random New Music Roundup

January 22, 2013 | 1

This week’s playlist doesn’t really have a specific theme but is more so a collection of new music that I’ve come across over the recent months that have really resonated and found a recurring role in my consciousness. This week’s New Music (I use that term lightly) Roundup features several tracks from Bronze Radio Return, and the Oh Hellos. I’ve also really gotten into Aloe Blacc after being introduced by Danielle from Chicago.  And finally after attending the Father John Misty and Walkmen show last night I can attest that both are fantastic live. If you have any awesome somewhat indie/up and coming tunes that you’d like to contribute, feel free to comment below the post!
