One More Beer Festival. The rallying cry I often tell my aching liver is actually the name of one of the coolest international beer festivals out there. Starting September 20, beautiful Krakow, Poland, will host two days and three sessions of incredible brews, with more than 180 beers from over 30 to taste.
This weekend, we celebrate all the craft-beer-drinking dads out there. We celebrate the non-craft-beer-drinking dads out there too, sorta, but they’re probably not reading this, so whatever. As a father myself, my favorite thing about Father’s Day is spending the afternoon doing what I love the most: not being bothered. It’s true that on any old weekend, I could mow the lawn into nice, crispy lines, throw some meat on the grill and crack open a cold brewski. But on Father’s Day, I get to do all of that without anyone hassling me.
Anyway, the PorchDrinking team has been out and enjoying this fantastic weather! Fantastic of course being relative, and assuming you haven’t been in Colorado for the past two months. Where’s the goddamn sun? Anyway, the crew’s got some fantastic brews for you to consider sharing with dear old dad this weekend in this week’s What We’re Drinking.
Omnipollo is a based out of Sweden, and references itself not as a brewery, but as a creative camp. The name originates from the words omnipotence and the Spanish word for chicken, pollo. The definition of omnipotence is the quality of having unlimited, or great power. When combined with the awkward and uncoordinated “pollo,” you get the creative and chaotic (yet powerful) product that is Omnipollo.
Omnipollo was founded by brewer Henok Fentie and artist Karl Grandin in 2011 with the hope of changing the known perception of beer and what it could be. Anybody who is familiar with Omnipollo knows how crazy some of their beers are, both the recipe and the artwork. In addition, the beers that Omnipollo releases are always collaborative efforts with breweries all over the world. This keeps a constantly curious and tuned-in approach to everything they do.
It’s a marshmallow world in the winter and what better way to commemorate this season than a stout brewed with… marshmallows? As an avid maker/consumer of Rice Krispie treats, if you tell me something has marshmallow in it, I’m immediately excited, like “when it was your birthday in school and you got to bring in treats for the class”-excited. Luckily the Swedish, who know a thing or two about endless freezing nights, have crafted a liquidized Stay Puft in the form of Hypnopompa to warm our innards on a chilly winter’s eve.
It’s definitely springtime now! Do you know what that means?! It means doing some ACTUAL drinking on ACTUAL porches! I’m sorry if I seem overexcited, but this is what every PorchDrinker lives for. We’re going to drink at ballparks. We’ll be drinking on patios. There might even be some picnic drinking! Take your laptop out to the porch, crack open a beer, and take some notes. We’re about to put on a serious PorchDrinking demonstration in this week’s edition of What We’re Drinking.
