Witnessing History as Georgia’s New Beer Laws Take Hold
July 1, 2015 | Jess Baker
As a hazy orange moon, colored by far away wildfires in Canada and Alaska, hung high in the late-July sky, a line snaked the length of half a football field outside the front door of Burnt Hickory Brewery in metro Atlanta Tuesday night.
The people at the very front of the line had been there since 3 p.m., tolerating Georgia’s heat and humidity for hours. Others had wandered up to the Kennesaw brewery after work or after dinner.
Craft beer lovers in other states may wonder, “What’s the big deal? People stand in line for bottle releases all the time.” But you’d be wrong. This doesn’t happen in Georgia. Read More

June 16, 2015 | Dana Rieck 1
Berthoud-based City Star Brewing released the brewery’s second installment in its barrel-aged bottle series, Scoundrel, on Saturday.
The brewery, self-described by owners John and Whitney Way as “taproom-centric,” only distributes its beer for tap to restaurants and bars. The two, though, have made an exception with Scoundrel and the beer’s predecessor, Outlaw – a whiskey barrel-aged stout. Read More

Craft Beer Welcomes You to South Carolina
April 15, 2015 | Johnathan Pylant
Admittedly, the Palmetto State has not always been the first place to come to mind when someone asked me where to find superb craft breweries. Prior to living here, I might have listed off California, Colorado, Oregon and New England. This is partly because the east coast, especially the southeast, has been slow to embrace the industry’s explosive expansion. I’ve lived in South Carolina since 2007, a time when there were merely 5 breweries in the state. Today, there are 21 breweries and 12 brewpubs. The state has really brought home the idea of being fashionably late. Approximately 57% of the current breweries were established in or after 2013. That is a huge explosion that has resulted in amazing beer and a sprawling community of craft brewers and enthusiasts.
