Eddyline Brewing | Mango Kettle Sour

October 9, 2018 |

Sometimes a beer is more than a beer. Sometimes it’s a symbol of support, solidarity, girl power, fearless females even — like Erin Moynihan, the brewer behind Eddyline Brewery’s new sweetly-sour creation, the Mango Kettle Sour.

The first sour in Eddyline’s lineup (and Erin’s first solo effort) was born with a purpose, with the Colorado Women’s Rafting Team in mind. This group of intrepid ladies based in Buena Vista and Salida won the Nationals in this international sport and will represent the United States in Argentina in November 2018. Anyone who has priced international flights knows that kind of travel doesn’t come cheap so a percentage of the sales of this feisty, fruity brew will help support their bid for the prize.

Brewery Showcase | Wiley Roots Brewing Co.

August 13, 2018 |

For the past five years, Kyle and Miranda Carbaugh have been operating Wiley Roots Brewing Company on a quiet dead-end street in Greeley, Colorado. They’ve run their small space with a friendly and humble mindset, believing that if the beer is good, then the rest will fall into place. The Carbaughs have even come to affectionately refer to themselves and their brewery as “the weird kid in class”.

Save the Ales Beer Festival Preview | The All-Colorado Cherry Dubbel

July 31, 2018 |

Colorado’s craft beer scene embraces many different philanthropies, including the conservation community. It’s not surprising as they have many things in common. After all, the environmental sector and beer industry are both dependent on water, a vital—and increasingly scarce—resource in the drought-stricken west.

This past Saturday, conservationists, brewers and beer lovers gathered at Goldspot Brewing Company, located in the Berkeley neighborhood of Denver, and sampled a beer made with all-Colorado ingredients created in honor of Conservation Colorado’s annual Save the Ales Beer Festival.

Avery Brewing 25th Anniversary Pour List Captures Avery Old & New

July 6, 2018 |

Allow me to doff my journalist cap for a moment because as important as it is to report on this industry without bias or influence, it’s just as important occasionally to share a few stories and remember that we’re still just writing about beer.

The Second Annual Rapids & Grass Beer Fest Raises the Bar for Craft Events

July 2, 2018 |

As the brewing industry ebbs and flows through the many styles that interest consumers, beer festival organizers are finding ways to cater to tastes and stand out. Festivals such as Big Beers, Collaboration Fest, The Firestone Walker Invitational, and the recent inaugural WeldWerks Invitation go above and beyond the standard convention cup format by providing one-off offerings, sought after rarities, and highlighting the education and spirit of the brewing community. The 2nd annual Rapids & Grass Beer Festival in Buena Vista, CO this past weekend is another example of how organizers are upping the ante on beer festivals with more than copious amounts of unique brews—they are making it an experience. Rapids & Grass celebrated innovation and camaraderie in craft beer.  Also, it offered attendees live bluegrass, camping, and whitewater rafting in the grandeur of the Collegiate Peaks alongside the roaring Arkansas River. Summer Brew & Starting Anew | Rockyard Brewing’s Dramatic Makeover

June 14, 2018 |

I’ve always been a bit cynical. I’m not a rare breed in that sense; the beer world has many stubborn, cranky cynics. We’re the ones shouting at you to get off our lawns with your sour, hazy, glittery slush stouts as we rock cantankerously back and forth on the porch with our pint glasses full of clear, reliable IPA. But even the most hardened beer traditionalist among us can look forward to summer. In summer, we can rise from the ashes of our self-loathing like a magnificent, tipsy phoenix. Even if for just a season, we can crack a smile and enjoy the sun on our face while the bubbles of an unfamiliar brew caress our puckered lips.

In that spirit, Colorado’s Rockyard Brewing Company is showing us how it’s done. Shedding its skin and undergoing a major renewal of its own, the brewery has done away with ALL of its award-winning original lineup.
