#EvilTwinBrewing – PorchDrinking.com
I don’t know about you, but it has been one hell of a week! With our upcoming train trip to Colorado to spend Christmas with my family, everything has been a blur! I literally thought Wednesday was Thursday and tapped our writers for their last submissions for this article, like “get them in now so I can post this up!” Whomp Whomp! But today is Friday for real and boy can I really use a cold one. Check out all the festive brews out team is downing, this is What We’re Drinking!
Cheer and happiness and all that festive crap is important, I suppose. But once in a while, the get-off-my-lawn crowd needs a shoutout. If you love the holidays and feel all warm and tingly at the sight of fresh December snow, this ain’t the article for you, Cindy Lou Who. This one’s for the grinches, the scrooges, the grown Charlie Browns; the curmudgeonly and cantankerous cranks of the world.
My promise to you right off the bat, is that there will be no cute rhymes here. If there’s anything I hate more than holiday music, it’s the nauseating rhymes companies try to incorporate into everything. Between the stress of shopping, the weather, traffic and that unbearable Mariah Carey song, we need an Ultimate 6er – and not just any 6er – to get us through to New Year’s Day. There are 12 shopping days left until Christmas, and today is 12/12. So here’s a 6er of beers that are all at least 12% ABV to pair with the season’s most pervasive annoyances.
Loving this warm weather and all the fun weekend activities – beach trips, beer festivals, and fairs! Our staff has been fueling their fun-filled week with delicious brews and we want to share that with you – this is What We’re Drinking.
Sheryl Crow. Brian Wilson. J.K. Rowling. Tony Soprano. If you are considering therapy, just know you are in good company. And in our present climate characterized by collective anxiety and presidential stupidity (“He tweeted what?!”), therapy is well within the margins of sanity.
Whether it’s highly sought after collaborations, sold out brews or buzzworthy beers of yesteryear making a sudden reappearance, we’ve got the lowdown on what you should try before the year is over! Word to the wise: some of these beers have already been released via one day sales and are unavailable—like Tom Cruise’s youth. We recommend you brush up on your bribe game, head to your nearest bottle trade and do some serious campaigning.
It’s been a crazy couple weeks here in the Bay Area. The North Bay is on fire, taking so many people’s livelihoods, homes, and wineries, and now Santa Cruz is on fire. Our air quality was on par with Beijing! Not to mention some people took advantage of the fires and looted, so not okay. This week the air quality has gotten back to tolerable levels and the relief efforts have been amazing to see roll in. Lots of Bay Area Breweries and Tap rooms held fundraisers for different funds! Take a load off and take a look at What We’re Drinking!

Carole King said it best when she sang, “where you lead, I will follow,” in the intro song for the Gilmore Girls. Since the beginning, the show has created a cult following that’s multi-generational, divisive (are you Team Jess or Team Logan) and very loyal. For seven seasons I followed the Gilmore Girls around the town of Stars Hollow, through the halls of Chilton, attended Friday night dinners, and had coffee at Luke’s. I cheered as Netflix announced the release of a four-episode continuation of the series and then mourned when it was all over (seriously, what’s up with those last four words)? But what I love about the show is that it’s always there waiting for you. Frozen in time, from the span of 2000 – 2007, filled with kooky characters and questionable fashion choices, the Gilmore Girls welcome you to step into their world and enjoy the ride.
The modern India Pale Ale is a much different beverage than the one that was shipped to the British colonies in India 200 years ago. That change accelerated greatly with the emergence of the American craft beer industry in …
Admit it. The Thanksgiving Macy’s Day Parade sucks.
Only the high school marching bands offer live entertainment, while the rest of the parade is bloated with understudy casts performing pre-recorded show tunes, and one-hit wonder Billboard-chart newbies attempting to look excited while lip-syncing vapid hits next to puppets and Teletubbies. The floats are kind of cool, if you mute the scripted minutiae rattled off by the commentators, and a strangely skinny Al Roker donning his Indiana Jones hat while inserting puns and cutesy anecdotes. But this Thanksgiving, the parade may be the best part of the day. Think about it. How long after the turkey is carved might the conversation rumble down this dangerous road:
“You voted for _________?!”
“What? You didn’t?”
Let the post-election Thanksgiving melee begin.
We’re now in the final throws of October. It’s getting dark earlier, and our beers are getting darker, too. All those dark, roasty malts will keep us warm in the cold months to come. Say goodbye to your lawnmower beer, and embrace the arrival of fall. Prepare to discover What We’re Drinking.

This past weekend marked a milestone for me in my beer drinking journey. I have been diligently tracking every beer that I have drank for the past three years, and thanks to my liver and the app Untappd, I have finally reached 1000 unique beers!
Evil Twin Brewing Company – Molotov Cocktail Imperial IPA
IBU: All of Them
This is going to be a bit confusing to those of you who are not familiar with my apartment, ok, well, that makes all of you – but I can smell this beer from my kitchen. I opened it, poured it, and ran to the kitchen to grab a snack. It’s a long way from my office to my kitchen, at least 40 feet. And there are walls…like a bunch of walls, at least 2, maybe more (counting becomes difficult somewhere between the 1st and 2nd Molotov).
