Restless Moons Brewing Company | Harrisonbürger Pilsner

June 3, 2020 |

Breweries have taken the initiative to distribute their beer due to the restrictions of COVID-19. In turn, craft beer fans should support as many nearby breweries as possible as they push through uncertain times. Not only are you doing what is right for local businesses but you may discover your new favorite beer from down the block! That’s how I came into contact with Restless Moons Brewing Company Harrisonbürger Pilsner.

Flatirons Soap Works Gives Beer Lovers Another Way to Incorporate Beer in their Lives

December 17, 2019 |

Being able to support small businesses, especially ones that pertain to beer, is a large part of the craft industry. Adam and Katie of Ale Adventures shared some of their favorite beer brands and products and we’ve shared some products beer lovers would enjoy as holiday gift ideas. So, as we approach the holiday season, it’s only fitting that we highlight Flatirons Soap Works, a Colorado-based small business that is well integrated into the beer community and whose product allows beer lovers to further incorporate beer into their lives.

Homebrewing Recipe | The Homebrewer’s Spice Rack (Inspired by Scratch Brewing)

January 15, 2018 |

The adventurous spirit of the brewer gives life to the craft beer industry. From humble beginnings creating experimental homebrews to large scale operations, the way styles and ingredients revolutionize our palates is nothing short of incredible. That’s what gave me a real appreciation for Scratch Brewing Company whose philosophy of forage-to-keg brewing really tests what beer is capable of. I had to own their book “The Homebrewer’s Almanac: A Seasonal Guide to Making Your Own Beer From Scratch” after our fellow PorchDrinking writer David Nilsen covered it in loving detail.

Ultimate 6er | Texas Charity Brews

August 30, 2017 |

Beer collaborations happen frequently and usually with other breweries; however, over the past few years, I have noticed a different type of collaboration throughout Texas.  Breweries all over the state are partnering with various charities in their communities by creating a beer, in many cases inspired by the charity, and donating a portion of their sales to the organization. For this piece, I have chosen six examples from Texas, but these are just a few examples of the many collaborations that occur all over the state. For each of the brews, I reached out to the brewery to find out what inspired the beer and why they partnered with a particular charity.

The Great American Beer Festival is huge. With almost 800 breweries on the roster, it feels like you have the whole craft beer world at your fingertips when you step on that tasting floor. Indigo Imp Brewery | Summer Pale Ale

June 13, 2014 |

ABV: 6.4%

Summer will be here in less than two weeks. My palate begins to water (as do most of my pores) when I think about the more humid, sunnier climes that have begun to take shape as May has ended and June has begun. As I dust off the porch seats and steel myself for the incessant weed trimmers humming next door and kids screaming across the street, I anticipate with great relish the moments sitting down with some friends and cooling off with a nice, bright, somewhat hoppy ale.  Read More

PorchDrinking Interview: Flying Dog Brewery and Gonzofest

September 26, 2013 |

The concept of “local” is a vital part of the craft beer experience. Beer drinkers—both new and seasoned—often seek out brews that were made close to home with locally-sourced products. This makes the entire experience special, more personal. Thankfully, as a resident of DC, I can call Flying Dog Brewery my local brewery, and I was welcomed and encouraged to do so by Flying Dog CEO, Jim Caruso. Jim and his team were kind enough to invite PorchDrinking to attend their annual Gonozofest, a music fest-cum-beer fest-cum-Hunter S. Thompson-homage. We were also lucky enough to attend a behind the scenes tour led by Jim himself. Read More
