It’s been a busy start to spring, and our staff has been equally as busy attending the Craft Brewers Conference, family events, beer festivals and so much more. I really can’t believe we are already in mid-April–where did the time go?! Get comfy and see what we’re drinking!
In a world filled with outlandish new beer style varieties, sometimes you just want a classic style: something without all the bells and double dry-hopping. After a long day, no matter the season or temperature, a stout sounds like a nice way to end my evening. I escaped my Oakland/Berkeley/Hayward/San Leandro bubble the other weekend and made my way up to Richmond (it’s really not that “far”) and I was a happy lady! East Brother Beer Co. is nestled over by Point Richmond and has the classic beer style game down. That’s their schtick: classic styles done well.
As we bid farewell to March and hello to April, we here at PorchDrinking have had our hands full with some amazing events, vacation, bad weather and lots more. Nothing soothes the soul of a craft beer blogger more than a craft beer…am I wrong?! Oh, and happy opening day to all! Here’s what we’re drinking–play ball!
With spring fast approaching I find myself looking for stone fruit, both the actual fruit and in beer! The Rare Barrel collaborated with Side Project Brewing to bring about a beacon that spring is finally here. I was able to speak with Alex Wallash, founder of The Rare Barrel, about this collaboration brew and he provided some insight to the making of Avec des Amis.
You guys, we made it!! The clocks have sprung forward and I think I am finally getting used to the “time change.” Today I walked our puppers in flip flops–yes, flip flops!! Thank you spring for raining down sunshine instead of water in the Bay Area!! Sadly, the whole country isn’t sharing these feelings as Colorado is dealing with a literal blizzard! Where ever you are, be safe this weekend as many people around the States celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with copious amounts of green beer (or Irish beer) and corned beef. Grab a cold one, or Pedialyte, and see what we’re drinking.
Where did the time go?! How is it already March?! I’m always the one that forgets February is a “short” month (28 versus 30 days) so I totally forgot to throw our article together and here we are – Saturday! I promise to do better guys but today is my Thursday (yay Industry week) so I am now off to provide tours of the brewery where I work. Grab a cold beer and see what we’re drinking.
The highly regarded James Beard awards have historically been associated with the highest calibre culinary institutions in the world, but the coveted honor also extends into the Wine, Spirits, and Craft Beer world. In fact, in 2017 Sam Calagione of …
San Francisco Beer Week is in full swing and our Pacific team got a great head start by attending the Opening Night Gala. Over 125 breweries converged at Pier 35 in San Francisco to showcase their tasty wares – 400 plus beers, food trucks, and craft beer lovers galore.
How are y’all doing? I am hoping San Francisco Beer Week (SFBW) hasn’t been too rough: We still have six days to go! SFBW is an amazing craft brewer’s guild event marathon with multiple events all over the greater San Francisco Bay area. The five guilds (San Francisco, East Bay, Silicon Valley, Coast and North Bay) gather together for tap takeovers, collaboration releases, food pairing events and many other types of fun times.
Working in the industry, there are two moods when you see SFBW approaching: Either you are hella pumped or you start chugging coconut water! Below are some can’t-miss events for the rest of the week. Get pumped and honestly—I suggest stocking up on coconut water.
As if San Francisco Beer Week (SFBW) wasn’t crazy enough with all of the Greater SF Bay Area breweries converging on Pier 35, three big-name breweries, Three Weavers out of LA, Cigar City from Tampa, and the iconic Brooklyn Brewing, have …
If you live in Northern California, like me, you are gearing up for San Francisco Beer Week–10 straight days of beer events, tap takeovers, brewer dinners and some seriously tasty brews from all around the Greater Bay Area! If you are attending the Opening Night Gala, check out our Gala Preview here. If not, saddle up and see What We’re Drinking.
That’s right, San Francisco Beer Week is BACK! #SFBW2019 kicks off on Friday February 1 this year, a little earlier than in previous years, and ends on February 10. Our Pacific regional team is amped up and ready to conquer this beer week – RIP to their livers – and you can find below the list of all breweries that will be in attendance and the beers they will be pouring. Oh, and check out the 1st timers – breweries that are new to the Craft Beer Scene.
*All pour lists are subject to change.
Welcome to 2019 fellow Craft Beer enthusiasts!! If you are like me, you are easing back into the work week and might be thinking “ughhhh I don’t wanna go…why do I even work?! Oh yeah, food & bills & beer…better …
2018 has been quite a year for California! Our Pacific team has been all over this lovely state to cover beer festivals, brewery openings, special releases and much more. We look forward to covering more in 2019. Here is the …
It’s the holiday season and everyone is buzzing around trying to find the best beer to share with friends and family. Most of us are also traveling to visit family—which means planes, trains and automobiles (like the movie, but hopefully less crazy). I personally took Amtrak to Grand Junction, Colorado, to visit family and it was great! What I did miss was the gas station coffee during pit stops. Thankfully, I was able to get the flavor without the hectic drive from California to Colorado!
I don’t know about you, but it has been one hell of a week! With our upcoming train trip to Colorado to spend Christmas with my family, everything has been a blur! I literally thought Wednesday was Thursday and tapped our writers for their last submissions for this article, like “get them in now so I can post this up!” Whomp Whomp! But today is Friday for real and boy can I really use a cold one. Check out all the festive brews out team is downing, this is What We’re Drinking!
Firestone Walker is known for creating some awesome brews, from the Luponic Distortion IPA series to Velvet Merkin, at their Paso Robles brewery. I feel that their Barrelworks beers can be overlooked at times, like the Champs de Fraises. I will be the first to say it took me a while to get down with wild ales, always thinking they would turn out a funky “gym sock” Belgian nose. Obviously, I had a lot to learn! Nowadays, wild ales are my jam and I seek out the opportunity to try these beauties.
As the season is trying its hardest not to let fall happen, I am soaking up all the sunshine I can! The leaves are changing colors, littering the grounds; the sun is going to bed earlier, and the moon — I mean… it’s been bright and huge, I love it! I personally love fall and it doesn’t mean the end of porch drinking weather. So bundle up, light the firepit, and see What We’re Drinking.
Now that our Northern California team has waded out of their post-California Craft Beer Summit comas, we can bring you all the fun goodies from this year’s CCBA! To kick the Summit off right there was a State of the California Craft Beer Industry session. Here we were shown the cold, hard, data facts of our State’s Industry—how craft beer is doing compared to other alcohols (spirits, wine) and who is drinking more craft beer (age wise), and also popular styles. It was awesome to see it broken down in such a way that everyone had their phones out to get photos of the slides! We left there pumped for what’s next and what our State is doing.
