Event Preview | Fort Love Brewers Jamboree 2015
May 5, 2015 | Cory Pelc 1The 2015 Fort Love Brewers Jamboree was created by the Loose Affiliation of Fort Collins Craft Brewers (LAFCCB) a group consisting of the commercial craft brewers in Fort Collins and Loveland. This event is envisioned as a journey through craft beer at a slower pace. The end goal is to put craft into the festival experience with a focus on the great culture of Fort Collins and Loveland breweries. (Pssst, it is exclusive to these two cities and the creators hope that both locals and out-of-towners can appreciate the focus on the “Fort Love!”)

Brewery Showcase | Warped Wing Brewing Company
May 5, 2015 | Kate {Brown Ale Girl} 1
My first visit to Warped Wing Brewing Company in Dayton, Ohio was this past November on a traveling craft beer bus. To be honest, after a long afternoon of drinking, I just remembered the awesome beer and venue. With its long chalkboard menu that reminded me of Cigar City Brewing and a large open area for seating and socializing, I immediately felt welcome in such a comfortable environment. I made a mental note, told my friends and family, drove back south, and thought that was that. Read More

Q&A with Moody Tongue’s Culinary Brewmaster Jared Rouben
May 4, 2015 | Mike ZollerI first met Moody Tongue Brewmaster Jared Rouben at a beer tasting back in the late fall of 2014. We chatted briefly but it was a memorable conversation because he talked about something I had never heard about before – culinary brewing.
Rhinegeist | A Side
May 4, 2015 | Lindsay KrumelABV: 6.4%
Rhinegeist A Side combines two of my great loves: alcohol and music. I’ve seen probably close to 100 bands in concert and tasted countless more beers. Conceived by Jim Blase of Shake It Records in Cincinnati’s Northside neighborhood and frequent Shake It patron/Rhinegeist distributor Pete Fernandez, this limited release IPA was brewed special for this year’s Record Store Day. Kentucky Derby Beer Cocktail
April 30, 2015 | Natalie Migliarini 1Confession: The first time I went to a horse race I never saw a horse. I was there for the party and was hanging out in bluegrass fields mixing cocktails. Which brings me to the event of the year happening this weekend, The Kentucky Derby.
Bourbon will be flowing, southern food will be frying and seersucker will be dancing. The royal cocktail of the weekend is the mint julep, which is laced with bourbon, mint, and simple syrup (water and sugar). What could be better than this southern tradition you ask? Adding craft beer to the mix.

EVENT RECAP | Terrapin Beer Co. 13th Anniversary Carnival
April 30, 2015 | Johnathan Pylant 1Terrapin Beer Company hosts two big festivals every year. Their Anniversary Carnival is held in April and the Hop Harvest Festival in October. Their latest Anniversary Carnival was April 11th and celebrated 13 years of great Terrapin beer. The carnival commemorates the premiere first public offering of Terrapin Beer Co.’s first brew, Rye Pale ale in April of 2002 at the Classic City Brew Fest. Terrapin holds their celebration the day before to make it available for employees and fans to attend the brewery’s proper anniversary the next day at the Classic City Brew Fest. Read More
Buffalo Bill’s Brewery | Orange Blossom Cream Ale

Hi all! I’m Kate, a new contributor around here. I write the blog Brown Ale Girl, which shares snippets of life, food, and beer in Cincinnati. I love drinking dark beer, supporting local businesses, and witnessing the revitalization of the Queen City.

Yogi Berra is credited as saying, “Love is the most important thing in the world, but baseball is pretty good, too.” Granted that it’s THE American pastime, I think a lot of people would agree. I grew up in a household where the Cincinnati Reds game was on the outdoor radio and family room television every night. Therefore, it’s not officially spring to me until I attend a baseball game. I was a little late this year, but this week I went to my first Reds and high school game of the season. To be honest, I felt chills when I heard the first “thwack” of the ball hitting the catcher’s glove. Read More
Ultimate 6er | 6 Southern Beers to Shoot the Hooch
April 29, 2015 | Jess BakerSummer in Atlanta means three things: drenching humidity, the annual 4th of July Peachtree 10K Road Race (which is held in the drenching humidity), and Shooting the Hooch.
While Shooting the Hooch may sound a little NSFW, we promise, it’s not. “Hooch” is short for the Chattahoochee River, and “Shootin’” means you’re leisurely floating down said river in an inner tube — and trust me, you’re going to need a beer for that. Read More

Marz Community Brewing Co | Jungle Boogie

Chicago is a city of neighborhoods. And after living here for any extended period of time, that phrase becomes so common and clichéd that it loses its meaning and incites a collective eye roll from any Chicagoan who hears it (as I’m sure any Chicagoan reading this has already audibly groaned at another utterance). But although it’s become a throwaway phrase, it’s still important to the city’s identity. Sometimes being a city of neighborhoods ends up creating divides and pockets of separation, as demonstrated by the city’s most recent mayoral election. Thankfully, there are dedicated groups of Chicago brewers more focused on bringing people together than providing further means of division. Read More

Westbrook Brewing Co. | Fisticuffs

Westbrook Brewing Company may not be the biggest, but they are one of the best breweries in South Carolina. This past January, RateBeer.com released their list of “Top Beers, Brewers, New Brewers By Subregion,” which listed Westbrook as Best Brewery in South Carolina, again. So, would you expect anything less than Fisticuffs from the Charleston, SC based brewery? I would say, not! Read More

BrüFrou [broo-froo] is the craft beer and food pairing event for foodies who appreciate the nuances of tastes, scents and textures…but there’s more to BrüFrou than meets the eye…and the tastebuds.
WE all know that beer pairs with food better than wine. So do the folks that ushered in this culinary pairing and craft beer event. The inspiration for BrüFrou is Colorado’s vibrant local roster of community beer and food events, revealing an inflection point on the scene. Craft beer has moved main-stage, no longer a sidelined curiosity. Building upon the localized celebrations, on April 25th, from 11 AM to 8 PM, BrüFrou did just that: elevated the scene to a new level and brought out many a craft beer gourmand.
Great South Bay Brewery | Blood Orange Pale Ale
April 27, 2015 | Carly MentoAverage reading time: 1 minute
ABV: 5%
IBU: 40
Once upon a time, there was a girl named Carly. She went for a stroll along the water front in Brooklyn. Pretty soon, she came upon an unassuming bar. She peeked inside, and when the bartender beckoned, she walked right in. Atop a stool at the counter, there were many taps of craft beer and Carly was thirsty.
Packing some punch from the Great South Bay of Long Island, New York is the Blood Orange Pale Ale. I call it the Goldilocks of Pale Ales — not too tangy, not too tart, this one is just right. The combination of American hops, malted barley and bitter blood oranges stir up a frenzy of flavors in your mouth that radiate across your tongue. While emitting a florally fresh scent that is expected from Cascade hops, they also play a part in adding a citrus-like quality to the body. The ale’s color is light, matching the mood one acquires upon drinking. Read More
