Meet the Brewer | Dogfish Head’s Sam Calagione Talks Expansion & New Beer
December 28, 2015 | Matt Saffer

Stone / 4 Hands / Bale Breaker Collaboration | Sorry Not Sorry
December 26, 2015 | Niel Stender
ABV: 9.3% | IBU: 70
Magic Hat #9 was my gateway craft beer. Easy drinking with just a hint of apricot. Still a favorite. So when I heard about Sorry Not Sorry being brewed with peaches, it immediately triggered a happy #9 association. Then I saw who was involved. Stone, check. 4 Hands, double secret probation check. And Bale Breaker. I’ll be honest, I’m not familiar with them but to be a part of this crew, they’re obviously top shelf.

Puff and A Pour | Oliva Cappuccino Nub Café & Oskar Blues BA Ten Fidy
December 23, 2015 | Cory Pelc
It’s been a long time coming but FINALLY we have dedicated some of our ‘free’ time to talking about one of our guiltiest of pleasures, cigars AND beer. The Puff and a Pour series will showcase world-class cigars paired up with some of the finest craft brews. We aren’t professionals (we kind of are) and so much like our devotion to all things craft, it will be geared towards being fun and educational first and foremost. For our first entry into the series, we take a torch to the Cappuccino Nub Café from Oliva and pop the top on the Barrel Aged Ten Fidy from Oskar Blues.

Upslope Brewing Company | Wild Christmas Ale (Lee Hill Series, Vol. 6)
December 23, 2015 | Nate Custard
ABV: 9.2% | IBU: 11
Let me preface this showcase: Upslope’s standard Christmas Ale is a really solid holiday dubbel. The Abbey Ale Yeast adds pleasant notes of dried fruit to the beer’s expected holiday spice to create a unique flavor. By any measure, it’s a good holiday beer.
That said, the Upslope Wild Christmas Ale takes it to a new and unexpected level. Read More

Oak Park’s Newest Beer Bar Accepts Bitcoins
December 22, 2015 | Mike Wronski
Oak Park has been a premier Chicago suburb since Chicago started having suburbs. Famed for being Frank Lloyd Wright’s canvas and the birthplace of Ernest Hemingway & Ray Kroc, there’s plenty of history and culture to prompt a visit. And located at the termination point of the Green Line, just a 25 minute train ride from the Loop, it’s simple enough to get to.
Lately, Oak Park has started to add more reasons to visit with an up and coming craft beer scene. It’s been host to the popular Oak Park Microbrew Review and will soon be home to its first breweries in 2016 (Oak Park Brewing Co. and Kinslahger Brewing Co.). But you need not wait until 2016 to get your craft fill in Oak Park, because Beer Shop now has everything you need.

Ultimate 6er | Beer And Voodoo Doughnut Pairing
December 21, 2015 | Brady Akers
Treat Yo’self Day is an amazing concept bestowed upon all humanity thanks to Tom Haverford and Donna Meagle on Parks & Recreation. Treat Yo’self is not a holiday (officially) or birthday occurrence; it is just a normal day where you throw caution to the wind and indulge in any and all material pleasures you like. In honor of this concept, I decided to Treat My’self by combining two of my all time favorite things into a Craft Beer and Voodoo Doughnuts Pairing.

South Loop Brewing Co w/ Dry Hop Brewers | Milkstachio
December 21, 2015 | Mike Wronski
ABV: 6%
IBU: 0
Mustaches are big in Chicago. Seems like they showed up in the 70s and then became a local institution. You surely can’t win a championship in this town without a mustachioed coach. And imagine Da Superfans or Carl Winslow without mustaches. Nick Offerman, Craig Robinson and the late Dennis Farina sport some hometime pride on their upper lip, too. All we need now is for Bill Murray to bring back the ‘stache (and i think we all agree that he should!)
So mustaches aren’t just for Movember around town here, rather they’re a matter of civic pride. Which is why South Loop Brewing and Dry Hop Brewers got together to brew Milkstachio, giving everyone the opportunity to sport a mustache. Although, this one won’t last long and is way more tasty than an actual mustache. Read More
