Denver’s events outside of the beerhall are sometimes better than the festival itself. We’ve compiled the complete GABF Events Guide surrounding this year’s Great American Beer Festival.

Cooking with Beer | The Great American Beer Burger
October 2, 2014 | Chelsea Mitchell 2Since the Great American Beer Festival is approaching, I decided to post the ultimate Cooking with Beer recipe: the Great American Beer Burger. To properly honor the most epic festival of all time, I knew I had to come up a downright mind-blowing creation and I knew it had to be loaded with beer. I figured nothing is more American than a good ol’ fashioned burger topped with about 1000 calories of ingredients – so I made this dream a reality. A whopping total of six different beers are used to create this monster of a meal plus whatever brews you decide to drink. If you make this thing, you’ll be so impressed with yourself for actually putting it all together, even if you don’t manage to fit it all in your belly. Hell, I’ll be impressed that you actually had to balls to try. If you’re on the fence and can’t decide, just think of this: Why settle for just one recipe with beer when you can combine them all?

Beginner’s Guide to the Great American Beer Festival
October 2, 2014 | Tristan Chan 1The Great American Beer Festival is upon us. It comes like a storm engulfing everything around the city of Denver. For over a week, sports bars turn into beer bars with extravagant tap takeovers, normally wine-centric fine dining establishments host carefully curated beer-paired 5 course meals, and the words prost, cheers, and OHHHHHH (don’t drop your glass) become part of the every day lexicon.
To the casual beer fan this can seem a bit overwhelming but we’re here to offer a few pointers to not look like a complete novice. And who knows… perhaps if you follow our Beginner’s Guide to the Great American Beer Festival, by the end of next weekend, your friends will consider you the group’s Cicerone.

Event Preview | Beers Made By Walking Festival
October 1, 2014 | Laura Graham 1This week, folks from across the country will flock to Denver, Colorado for the Great American Beer Festival. While here, they’ll partake in one of the greatest events our city hosts, undoubtedly stumbling upon beautiful architecture, delicious food, and incredible people during their stay.
Fall in Colorado is host to indescribable mountain beauty, and what a shame it is that GABF visitors might only catch a glimpse of the changing Aspen trees from an airplane flying in. If you can’t make it to the great outdoors this week, bring the great outdoors to you at the Beers Made By Walking Festival October 3rd at Wynkoop Brewing Company.
Ultimate 6er | Märzen Madness
October 1, 2014 | Kevin RisnerWith the end of September comes the wrapping up of the Oktoberfest season, or what I would coin as Märzen Madness. Fairs across the U.S. have had their seasonal stein-raising festivals full of oom-pa-pa music, some of the more widely known tipples with German names and an array of food that may cause indigestion for most. In Munich, those millions lucky enough in attendance have a few more days before the nonstop imbibing ends and a cleanup of epic proportions begins.
To emulate this spectacular party still taking place abroad, to profess my love for the seemingly simple but still complex Märzen and to give one last hurrah to the summer, which is why this party takes place, I have provided you with the quintessential collection of some of the better Oktoberfests around. GABF Daytrip | Denver Brewery Tour
September 29, 2014 | Chris Day 2With almost 700 breweries from all over the country pouring at the Great American Beer Festival this year, it’s easy to overlook how many great ones we have right here in Denver. How many? I count 37 breweries and cideries with taprooms in a roughly five-mile radius of the Colorado Convention Center where the festival will be held, and I’m guessing a handful more opened while I was typing this post. Many of them will not be at GABF, and most do not distribute their products outside of Colorado. We know craft beer drinkers to be an adventurous sort, so why not do a little exploring before or after the fest? In that spirit, I’ve compiled a list of destinations nearby that are easily accessible by foot, bike, or a short ride with your favorite car service. Dear readers, please stow your pretzel necklaces and hop cone hats for a moment – we’re going on an insider’s Denver brewery tour.

Upland Brewing Company | Champagne Velvet Pilsner
September 29, 2014 | Brady Akers
ABV: 5.50% | IBU: 29
After a long week at work, I felt I needed something light and simple to drink. While pilsners are usually one of styles of beer I avoid, I’ve found plenty of pre-prohibition style beers that surpassed my expectations. When I realized that Champagne Velvet was originally released as a part of Upland Brewing Company‘s 15th anniversary, I was intrigued by this modern take on the early 1900s beer that originally put Indiana brewing on the map.
