We’ve got updates on laws – some good, some bad – a list of some fun beer names, tips on brewing, and a great SNL skit of Rick Perry. How could it get any better? Read More
Adroit Theory Takes Brews to D.C.
June 23, 2014 | Stacey GoersIn Washington, D.C., old collides with new. It’s a city of rows of Georgetown mansions and burgeoning hipster neighborhoods, of traditional politicking and feisty, unfettered eagerness. Last week, the “History and … Read More
Devils Backbone Brewing Company | The Vienna Lager
June 23, 2014 | Carly Mento 2ABV: 4.9%
IBU: 18
There are few things I love more than the serendipity of walking through the doors to a New York City saloon, and almost instantly, falling in love with a lager. This past month, not only did I find love, but it was a winner in the most literal sense.
Milwaukee Brewing Company Hop Freak Double IPA
June 20, 2014 | Brady AkersABV: 8.70%
IBU: 80
Writer Ritu Ghatorey said “Sometimes You Need To Look At Life From A Different Perspective.” And she was right, which is why I am going to do two reviews in one. I was able to try Hop Freak in 2 different formats in 2 different settings. My first experience was a draft of Hop Freak on the patio deck at Milwaukee Brewing Company overlooking the Milwaukee River on a hot Milwaukee summer day. My other experience with Hop Freak was out of a can on a cold, rainy Denver night. Both experiences were delicious, but very different.
Cooking with Beer | Stone Cold IPA Pickles
June 19, 2014 | Chelsea Mitchell 9
When was the last time you went to a farmer’s market or a flea market and didn’t see a jar of IPA Pickles selling for some ridiculous price? Along with the boom in craft beer production has also come a boom in craft beer related items – one of them being beer pickles. Instead of giving in and paying top dollar for one of these jars, I decided to go off and make pickles on my own.
Southern Tier | Farmer’s Tan
June 19, 2014 | Emily MollineauxABV: 4.6 %
Now that Summer is fully upon us, I thought it would be nice to showcase one of my favorite summer seasonal beers! Southern Tier, a brewery out of Lakewood, New York, has dialed in on a phenom in their Session India Pale Ale named “Farmer’s Tan.” If the name alone isn’t reason enough to give it a try, just wait until you taste it. Ultimate 6er | Summer Road Trip
June 18, 2014 | Niel StenderSummer and road trips are as American as apple pie and ice cream, or cheddar cheese if you’re into that sort of thing. I love road trips and though I don’t have epic adventures planned for summer 2014, I wrapped one up with my brother last year that covered 6,000 miles in a two-week span of elation, madness and general fun. Great Divide | 20th Anniversary Celebration Recap
June 18, 2014 | Cory Pelc 1This past Saturday we celebrated Great Divide Brewing Company’s 20th Anniversary with 2,000 of our hop cone compatriots in Denver, CO!
A long, line of craft beer connoisseurs formed on Brighton Boulevard. Cars slowly passed by looking for open parking spaces; patrons cruised in on their two wheelers and entered into the queue for bicycle valet (free courtesy of our friends over at Denver B-Cycle). A line of kegs outlined the entryway with Great Divide staff members donned in their 20th anniversary red shirts and sporting the largest of smiles. They knew what we were in for as we were wrist banded. . .

Anchorage Brewing & Jolly Pumpkin | Calabaza Boreal
June 16, 2014 | Bob McGurganAnchorage Brewing & Jolly Pumpkin | Calabaza Boreal
ABV: 7.0%
In honor of our collaboration roundtable this week, I figured I’d showcase a recent collaboration from a pair of breweries that I love to death. Calabaza Boreal is a team-brew by Anchorage Brewing and Jolly Pumpkin, and I’ll spoil the article early to reveal that this beer is delicious. If you like sours, you were probably excited when you read the title.
World Cup Grapefruit Caipirinha Ale Popsicles
June 13, 2014 | Natalie MigliariniThe World Cup is starting this week and it is going to be a fabulous month of eventful soccer games, drinking games and fun Brazilian inspired cocktails. I decided to turn my favorite Brazilian cocktail the caipirinha into refreshing summer popsicles. The caipirinha is Brazil’s national cocktail and contains cachaca a liquor made from sugar cane. The classic caiprinha contains lime, sugar and cachaca.

Indigo Imp Brewery | Summer Pale Ale
June 13, 2014 | Kevin RisnerABV: 6.4%
Summer will be here in less than two weeks. My palate begins to water (as do most of my pores) when I think about the more humid, sunnier climes that have begun to take shape as May has ended and June has begun. As I dust off the porch seats and steel myself for the incessant weed trimmers humming next door and kids screaming across the street, I anticipate with great relish the moments sitting down with some friends and cooling off with a nice, bright, somewhat hoppy ale. The Official 2014 World Cup Drinking Game
June 12, 2014 | Danny King 3It’s that time again. Thirty-two teams representing nations from across the world come together for one reason. To give us an excuse to drink for a month straight! Oh, and something about national pride and the glory of being crowned the greatest team in the world’s most popular sport. That too.
Elysian Brewery | Savant IPA
June 12, 2014 | Brady AkersABV: 6.30%
IBU: 66
I am not a scientist and I rarely claim to be, but there has to be research available that proves that people love monkeys. I was at Hugo’s, my local beer store, trying to judge a beer by its label and make the impossible decision: Elysian’s DayGlow IPA with a tiger shooting rainbow lasers out of its eyes or Elysian’s Savant IPA with a monkey in glasses painting a picture. My past experience with Elysian has revolved around their incredible fall pumpkin beers, which made me appoint Elysian my beer of the evening for a rainy Wednesday night.
