Colorado has always been a place of privilege when it comes to accessing the finer selections of craft beer. With the staples being rooted in our scene now for 30 years and handfuls of breweries opening up each month, we are really epitomizing the moniker of the Napa Valley of Beer with our distribution side of things opening up as well. In the last few months, we have been blessed with Clown Shoes Beer and Epic Brewing hitting our shelves. Now, within the last few weeks, we have had an influx of infinite awesomeness with Speakeasy Ales and Lagers, Alesmith, Stillwater Artisanal and Evil Twin Brewing. I will be sipping many of these new brews on the back porch soon enough but for now I will talk candidly about an old friend, Evil Twin’s Lil’ B Imperial Porter.

Wet Hop Dream – Fresh Hopped Red IPA

As late August and early September hit, I begin to dream about Wet/Fresh Hop ales. Over 2 years ago I decided that I would take this passion for wet/fresh hop ales into my own hands. I planted my own hops and in turn would brew my own wet/fresh hop ale. The first year the hops grew rapidly and produced a good amount of Chinook, Cascade, and a small amount of Nugget. My girlfriend Lynn and I brewed a fresh hopped pale ale that was a hit at our Halloween party. The second year did not fare so well for our hops as they were attacked by some killer aphids. It should come as no surprise to some of you that I’m a bit of an Anglophile – I will own a MINI Cooper some day when I’m grown up and can afford it; I woke up at 4:30 in the morning to watch the royal wedding live; and (I swear I’m not making this up) I own a coffee cup celebrating Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee. It follows, of course, that I love me some British television. And, when I realized that Time Warner carried BBC America, it was all over. Between good ole’ channel 225 and the staggering array of BBC content available on Netflix, it truly is surprising that I venture out of my house to make a living. The main reason being is the Beeb has been putting out some seriously superior content lately. If you’ve never watched some of these shows, now is the time to start.
