For those of us in Fantasy Football leagues, our minds are prematurely wrapped around playoffs as we reach the final stretch in our outrageously competitive seasons. In reality, week 14 through 16 are equally as important: aside from teams that have no chance of going to the Superbowl, there are some critical triumphs that must be won to determine others’ qualifying status.  Let’s focus on some of the biggest December games that will make or break our brackets to prepare our odds — and our palates — for this year’s NFL playoffs.

Super Bowl Sunday is always a wonderful time to get together with friends while enjoying delicious food and beer. Whether a football fan or not, people love an excuse to celebrate. To be honest, I like watching football, but I am no die-hard fan and it would not be as much fun without everything that comes along with it 🙂 Read More

Ultimate 6er – Big Ten Football Part I: Leaders Division

October 2, 2013 | 1

By now you all are used to me basing my Ultimate 6ers on popular TV shows. This time around, I’m doing something a little different. Inspired by the Ohio State v. Wisconsin game that took place this past Saturday, I’ve decided to do a beer for every team in the Big Ten. Lucky for me the conference actually has 12 teams split into two divisions, Leaders and Legends. This week’s six pack will focus on the Leaders, and you’ll notice each team is matched with a beer made in its state. Read More

Week 8 Fantasy Football Preview

October 25, 2012 |

I wish a happy Thursday to all of you fantasy freaks. As we approach the halfway point of the season, some of the early season trends which we chalked up as flukes are starting to show some staying power while others are who we thought they were, to borrow a page from Denny Green’s book. I know one suspicion of mine that was confirmed this week, was to never, ever, ever draft a holdout running back. Following in Chris Johnson’s footsteps, Maurice Jones-Drew went down this week with a foot injury that could keep him out for weeks. While I don’t care for Rashad Jennings against Green Bay this week, he’s certainly someone that you should have already put in a claim for in your league. If you haven’t yet, you can check to see if he’s still around, but I highly doubt it.

I’m sure that, like me, some of you were bitten by the monsters that were masquerading as the San Francisco and Chicago defenses last week.  Sometimes you just have to throw your hands up and remember that fantasy football is a cruel, unapologetic beast, and that’s on a good day.

Here’s the variety of fall samplings they came up with. Read More

Story Time With Hank | Time Travel

August 24, 2012 |

It’s not quite six o’clock in the evening, and I’m sitting in a sports bar that someone’s wedged into the lobby of the hotel in which I’m staying. Or maybe the bar was here first and the hotel grew out of it like a profitable tumor. Either way, it’s an awkward arrangement: certain tables are all but behind the reception desk and every now and then a brass luggage trolley bumps and nudges its way through the maze of tables and chairs laid out by the bar staff, leaving behind it a wake of spilled drinks and muttered curses then disappearing into one of the elevators on the far wall.
