Fall is officially upon us, but it’s still hot as heck here in the South. Luckily, I was able to spend the last week in the Netherlands and enjoy fall-like weather. How are you celebrating the start of the fall season? Here are some delicious beers to help you enjoy the changing of seasons in this week’s What We’re Drinking.
The air is finally chilly where I live in Florida, so we finally feel the holiday spirit minus the snow. Around this time, we tend to have a lot on our plate, even after we think there’s no way to fill up our plate more than we did on Thanksgiving. There is an endless amount of activities to enjoy coming up, plus tons of beer options to choose from while we are in the prime of the season. My best advice is to take it slow to enjoy every moment. Many craft beer drinkers would agree when I say the best way to embrace the moment is with a great brew by your side. This week, the PorchDrinkers have a stellar lineup to inspire the joy a craft can conjure.
After a sip of Jack’s Abby’s House Lager, it is understandable to think that you just tasted the Massachusetts brewery’s version of an Oktoberfest. Everything about the taste harkens back to the 1516 German Reinheitsgebot law that states only water, malt, yeast, and hops can be used to make beer. But there is something else about it that separates it from the other beers on the market. It has a maltier taste that splits the difference between nutty Oktoberfests and the standard golden lagers that belong at a summer barbecue.
Foxboro, Mass. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy, and the New England Patriots are no exception to this. Our heroes, the Philadelphia Eagles, are about to meet these cheaters on the gridiron and bring the Lombardi Trophy home to the City of Brotherly Love. I know you’re all rooting for the right team. You’re impatient for the game to start. So, why not read a bunch of tweets about beer? This is The Weekly Buzz.

It’s the week after GABF. We’re all worn out from all the crazy social media chatter. That’s why I kept this edition of The Weekly Buzz short, sweet and light. There are a few event postings, a job announcement and some good old fashioned shenanigans. So, grab a beer. It’s time to zone out and stare at The Weekly Buzz.
Compared to last week, this week was relatively quiet. The news that the sun is going to go dark and leave us in a lawless scenario (a la “The Purge”) is a little unsettling, but I have craft beer and a deadbolt. I’ll be fine. Safely locked in my highly secure bunker, I will not rest until I’ve brought you the finest tweets on the internet! The end may be nigh, but that doesn’t stop you from sitting back, relaxing and enjoying this week’s edition of The Weekly Buzz!
I just finished a seven-day, 73-hour work week. This was a completely unexpected turn of events, and I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to complete The Weekly Buzz. Fear not, dear readers! Sacrifices were made, the proverbial candle was burned at both ends, and I managed to cut and paste some tweets for your enjoyment. You’re welcome! I’m going brewery hopping for the next 24 hours. Don’t you dare try to stop me!
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, “Work is for suckers.” The overtime checks are nice, but the more time I spend at work, the less time I can spend tirelessly searching Twitter on your behalf. My employers just don’t understand that I like my readers more than I like them. I sacrificed my own health and well-being by forgoing sleep and compiling this week’s edition of The Weekly Buzz.
This was a pretty fun week for social media. Not only did the Super Bowl provide endless, hilarious supply of brewery-on-brewery trolling, but there was lots of other fun stuff, too. There were breweries checking in from beer festivals, new beers, distribution announcements, job listings, and more. Don’t worry. We caught all the shenanigans and distilled it down for easy consumption. This is The Weekly Buzz.
Unfortunately, we had to take last week off due to an unexpected emergency, but we’re back and more buzzed than ever! This week, social media has been chock full of job opportunities, beer event announcements, giveaways, and even bad touches. Fasten your seat belts, pour a beer into the appropriate glassware, and prepare yourself for The Weekly Buzz!
By the time this weekend comes around I will have written close to 5,000 words on beer, interviewed the head of the “best brewery in the world” , driven over 500 miles visiting breweries, and taken more pictures of pints than I care to admit. I love doing this, but even the best things can be exhausting, especially since those numbers only scratch the surface of how much thought I try to put into every post and that is not easily quantifiable. Yes, it’s beer and beer is great, but it’s also writing and writing is hard. At the end of the “day,” which seldom is only 24 hours, my brain needs a quick reboot. After years of highly scientific research, I’ve come up with the perfect reset button: a good, long run and a bottle of the adequately named Jack’s Abby’s Leisure Time Lager.
