Beers For Gaming | Dark Souls

July 30, 2020 |

Whether it’s the defining scene in your favorite show, the climactic mission in one of your favorite games, or the beer you order at your local pub, we all have our holy grails that set the standard.

These beloved experiences evoke a certain sense of nostalgia for a lot of us. For me, sitting around and sharing a bomber with my closest friends is one of the best things there is, no matter how often it happens. Immersing yourself in video game stories is no different. The carefully crafted worlds, narratives, action sequences and emotional decisions can impact the gamer for years to come.  Read More

T.F. Brewing | Albion Belgian Trippel

February 27, 2019 | 1

The Utah brewing community was a little bit shocked when Kevin Templin left his long time position as Head Brewer at Red Rock Brewing Co. To us it seemed like an abrupt mic drop that didn’t make sense. After surviving the initial shock, we took comfort in the fact there must be something brewing in his mind. So we patiently let the months pass by. As the seasons morphed and the local craft beer continued to thrive, we might have almost moved on. Then, Kevin was back with a bang just as quickly as he had left—and this time he brought along the whole family! Read More

Brew Day Playlists | Creature Comforts Brewing Co.

September 4, 2018 |

In this edition of the PorchDrinking Playlist, we bring you the music that inspires Georgia’s very own Creature Comforts Brewing Co. In the past four years, Creature Comforts has grown to become not only one of Georgia’s most well-respected breweries, but also one of the country’s fastest-growing brands. Who knew they were going to draw fans from all over the nation? As always, we were curious about what kind of music resonates within the walls of the restored historic warehouse while whipping up fresh batches of brews. Just how does the sound reverberate across the walls with the guts dating back to the 1940s? Does this influence the beer being produced? Let’s find out!

What We’re Drinking | May 25th, 2018

May 25, 2018 |

The disappointment of finishing a unique beer that was so good is something I am sure we have all run into. We stare into the empty glass oh so sadly/dramatically. The non-stop downpour in the Southeast adds a more dramatic effect in my case. All that is left is the lacing. Now we have to find one that was just as good or better?! PorchDrinkers know this struggle and have got you covered in all regions. Check out What We’re Drinking this week to fill that glass up with something great again. Read More

Epic Brewing Company | Triple Barrel Big Bad Baptist

November 20, 2017 |

Few words excite beer lovers as much as the word “rare”. The thought electrifies basic hunting instincts into a frenzied FoMO path to liquid bliss. Last year, when Epic Brewing Company announced its plans to release two very special versions of their barrel-aged stout Big Bad Baptist, we stood up and took notice. Released alongside the already well-established original Big Bad Baptist, was the Mexican coffee-inspired Big Bad Baptista and the sensory enticing Double Barrel Big Bad Baptist. Needless to say, many of our old trading friends dropped us a quick “ISO” once they caught wind of it. Read More

PorchDrinking Playlist | Ex Novo Brewing

September 19, 2017 |

In the heart of downtown Portland, Oregon there must be a Nickelback concert happening this very moment. It turns out to just not to be the case, however it may be the folks at Portland’s Ex Novo Brewing Company trying to break up a boring day. “One of our favorite pastimes at the brewery is to blast some super shitty music and see how long it takes before someone changes it,” said head brewer, Ryan Buxton. This seems to be a game they play to keep things from getting stale. The tradition keeps things fresh because it rarely lasts more than three songs at a time. And please do not worry, this is all done before the doors open to the public. Read More

2 Row Brewing | Tastes Like Citrus IPA

July 6, 2017 |

ABV: 7.1%

In the land where lower alcohol brews rule the draft lines, many excellent strong beverages are continuously being produced by our local breweries. According to a few hundred like-minded local beer geeks, 2 Row Brewing’s Tastes Like Citrus IPA is Utah’s current number one high point ABV beer. Not only does 2 Row’s mastermind Brian Coleman craft great IPA, he seemly introduced our first native born hazy IPA. Coleman is no stranger to the IPA game. He has been brewing some of the state’s best hoppy beers since opening his brewery less than two years ago. His foray into the haze craze naturally seemed only a ‘when’ and definitively not an ‘if’.

Vernal Brewing Company | .50 Caliber IPA

May 16, 2017 |

ABV: 8.5%

We took a road trip to Vernal to visit one of Utah’s most modern and beautifully constructed craft beer breweries. Admittedly, visiting Vernal Brewing Company was planned with reckless abandon. And as soon as we plugged the address into the GPS and 3+ hours popped up, a little skepticism quickly arose. But, successfully driving there and back in a single day proved it was worth the trip.

What We’re Drinking | June 3rd, 2016

June 3, 2016 |

Many a thing pair beautifully with our beloved beverage, beer. Cheese, pie, porch swings, macaroons, bacon, campfires, you name it — there’s probably been a beer pairing for it. Personally, my favorite thing to pair with beer has always been dessert… but what about when the beer is so wonderfully decadent that it is, in fact, a dessert? Yes please. This can easily be said about Westbrook Brewing’s recently released Mexican Cake — a highly sought-after imperial stout aged on cocoa nibs, vanilla beans, habanero peppers, and cinnamon sticks. This is one you don’t want to miss, folks.

The PorchDrinking team has been busy researching (drinking) all week long to make sure you have the beer-iest, most beautiful weekend possible. See what else we’re excited about below. Cheers to liquid dessert. *clink*

Beerology | Why We Toast

January 7, 2016 |

Welcome to Beerology! On the first Thursday of every month we will take a look into the origins of all things booze. This can range anywhere from where certain styles of beer came from, how certain brewing techniques were developed, tracing the history of beer trends, and today we thought it appropriate to touch on how one of our oldest beer traditions began by asking the question, why we toast our beers.

Uinta Brewing Company | Red IPL

August 17, 2015 |

6.2% ABV | 57 IBU

This time last year we found ourselves in the middle of summer and a social media frenzy. The buzz was everywhere with the ‘brrr’ of buckets being gleefully poured over anxious participants. Being nominated to take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge ourselves, we experienced the excitement firsthand. It’s great to have fun while spreading awareness about a serious condition (and not to mention raising some serious cash to benefit research to find a cure). Read More
