Before I was a #LadyWhoDrinksCraftBeer, I was really into wine. Wine was so important that I contemplated studying to be a sommelier. One day, I discovered Flanders red ales and the rest is history! Over the years, I’ve discovered different types of brews that tickle my fancy and many that I could do without. I have an appreciation for tart, funky beers and Cleophus Quealy Beer Company’s Framboos hits the spot every single time!
If you haven’t heard about Cleophus Quealy Beer Co. consider this your formal introduction to a great farmhouse brewery in the East Bay! They are located at 448 Hester Street, San Leandro, CA 94577 – which is right by the Oakland International Airport! So, you know it’s good to grab a great beer on your layover or on your way out of town.
It’s that wonderful time of year again where Craft Breweries and Craft Beer lovers alike rejoice in copious new beer releases, fantastically planned events, and can all relate to being both excited for San Francisco Beer Week (SFBW) to be here and counting the days until their livers aren’t screaming at them. Our writers in the San Francisco Bay Area were invited to preview some of the local wares and can releases for this year’s SFBW and we wanted to share the good word you!
That’s right, San Francisco Beer Week is BACK! #SFBW2019 kicks off on Friday February 1 this year, a little earlier than in previous years, and ends on February 10. Our Pacific regional team is amped up and ready to conquer this beer week – RIP to their livers – and you can find below the list of all breweries that will be in attendance and the beers they will be pouring. Oh, and check out the 1st timers – breweries that are new to the Craft Beer Scene.

Electricity pulsed through the growing line outside of Fremont Brewing’s Frēlard Production Facility in Seattle, Washington. Growing by the minute, fanatics of Fremont Brewing eagerly hopped up and down, greeted old friends and excitedly developing strategies around bottle purchases. Though it would be a safe assumption that the people in line weren’t strangers to the concept of waiting for craft beer, this line was for a reward much greater than any special release. This line was for the crème de la crème of craft beer events in the city – the Heron Hunting Club’s annual get-together.
This event, put on in celebration of Fremont’s Heron Hunting Club – a group comprised of and dedicated to the breweries’ most loyal and ardent fans, is a prime example of a trend sweeping through craft beer: Programs and clubs, sponsored and created by breweries, that reward their most diehard patrons by offering exclusive, intimate experiences and benefits.
With so many exciting events over the San Francisco Bay Area, I had to break it down regionally. Each day, I will highlight an event that I will either attend or wish I could. Sadly, I can’t be in two places at once.
Friday was the only easy day to pick which event to go to, the Opening Gala in San Francisco. The other days, not so easy!! I wish I could clone myself in order to attend all of the events scattered around the Bay Area and Santa Cruz/Monterey area. Here are the events that we are looking forward to for Saturday, Sunday and Monday of SFBW 2018!
San Francisco Beer Week kicks off its 10th Anniversary on February 9, 2018. Like last year, this beer week runs a full 10 days, packed with events all across the Bay Area, ending on February 18, 2018. Get your livers and drinking boots ready. Make sure to check back for the PorchDrinking list of Can’t Miss Events for each day! Below you will find the 10 beers we’re most excited for, along with the full pour list (subject to change).
As the first month of the new year fades away, we are all left with warm thoughts of holidays past and look forward to the next three-day weekend! I am looking forward to that extra Monday off after San Francisco Beer Week 2018 though; it all starts with the SFBW Gala in San Francisco on February 9, and ends with some chill events on the 18th. The 19th I fully plan on sleeping in and repairing what is left of my liver. I hope you enjoy seeing What We are Drinking this past week!
Living in the Bay Area has some huge perks if you are into craft beer, which let’s be honest – if you are reading this you probably are. I live in San Leandro, and a ton of amazing breweries are anywhere from 10 minutes (I am crazy close to Drake’s Brewing & Cleophus Quealy Beer Co) to a few hours away, like Alvarado Street Brewery out of Monterey, California. Grab your board and prepare to shred, brah.
Have you been having trouble discovering new beers to try? Well, don’t worry. The PorchDrinking staff has been out discovering tasty brews, so we thought we would point you in the right direction. Sit down and take a look at What We’re Drinking!
PorchDrinking season is officially upon us! Our nearest stellar body is pouring it’s warming countenance upon us, and it is glorious. It is important that you all show the utmost respect during this holy time of year. Dust of the adirondack chairs, oil the chain on the porch swing, and get the dead leaves out of the horseshoe pits. It’s summer, and this is What We’re Drinking.
Sadly, San Francisco beer week is over. It was another incredible week, full of amazing events and new and innovative beers. Pounds were gained, work was neglected, but it was all worth it. From the Opening Gala to the last day, Beer Week was loaded more than any prior year. Each day had more events for any one person to handle, but that is the beauty of Beer Week.

OK, you’ve made it through the weekend… and survived. You went to all the events we recommended and then some. It isn’t even mid-week and you’re thinking you can rest up for a few days to finish SFBW off with a bang on weekend two, right? WRONG! February 14-16 are loaded with some can’t-miss events, so stop whining and get out there!
San Francisco Beer Week kicks off their 9th year starting Friday, February 10 and running through Sunday, February 19. The festivities are packed with over 800 events and span the entire Bay Area from Half Moon Bay in the south to Santa Rosa in the north. We will highlight our top picks for each day. It’s the most wonderful time of the year. That’s right! It’s time for all the winter blockbusters to be released into theaters near you! Whether you’re visiting a wizarding world or making a hyperspace jump to a galaxy far, far away, you can rejoice in the knowledge that many theaters now carry a selection of delicious craft beers. Pre-order some tickets, get a bucket of popcorn, and put your phone on vibrate. This is What We’re Drinking.
Beer + Food = Love. This is the motto for San Francisco Beer Week. Every year SFBW surprises me with more and more great events and beer. In its eighth year running, there is no shortage of fun to partake in for San Francisco Beer Week. For starters, this San Francisco Brewers Guild hosted week is actually ten days long. There are over 700 events scheduled and the list is still growing. It would be near impossible and detrimental to your liver to even try to visit all or most of the events. Here is a spotlight of some can’t miss events for San Francisco Beer Week.
