Now that the last NFL pre-season game is in the books, it’s time to get serious. Week one starts this week, and it’s game on! The Packers take on the Bears for Thursday Night Football and wraps up with the Broncos playing the Raiders on Monday. Needless to say, the lineup in between will be awesome! As you’re completing your Fantasy Football drafts or simply reaching for a nice, cold craft beer to sip on as you’re cheering on your favorite team, here’s a few beers that will go great with the games as week one is set to begin.
They say you can’t go home again. I beg to differ, at least when it comes to beer.
A big part of my introduction to craft beer, as I’m sure is the case for many of you, was sampling as many different beers from as many different styles as I could, within reason (and sometimes without). I didn’t realize this at the time, but these were my formative craft beer years: a time spent feeling out boundaries and developing personal standards and learning what I like and why. One of the most outstanding examples in my mind is The Sixth Glass, a Belgian-style Quadrupel from Kansas City’s Boulevard Brewing Co.
Baseball and beer are a match made in heaven. Sure, you can have one without the other but it’s a hell of a lot more fun when you combine the two.
With the boys of summer starting to get into the full swing and more and more craft breweries partnering up with MLB teams, we rounded up some of the best baseball-themed beers from across the country.

This week’s mini-rant is going to be dedicated to the horrifyingly low availability of craft beer in Myrtle Beach. Yes, I know that there are a few places with a halfway decent selection, BUT the Grand Strand covers a shocking long chunk of coastline. I don’t always want to drive 30 minutes round-trip just to grab a late-night sixer. Today I bought a four-pack of Miller High Life pounders in a Dollar General. That’s what I’ve sunk to. While I wallow in the depths of macro despair, I submit this edition of The Weekly Buzz.
This freaking weather is driving me insane. First it was cold, and now it’s 90 degrees. I just turned the heat off two days ago. It shouldn’t have been necessary to turn the air conditioner on today. Mother Nature needs to cool her jets and enjoy a fine craft beer. Despite the sweat puddle that’s accumulating under my desk, I still managed to find a bunch of fun stuff on Twitter and Instagram. I’m getting ready to go on vacation! My destination may not be a world-renowned beer town like Portland or Denver, but I’m sure I will find a way to enjoy some delicious craft brews. For those of you who are forced to stay home and endure your normal slog, I present you with a week’s worth of beer news and shenanigans. You can read The Weekly Buzz while you pretend to do your TPS reports. I, on the other hand, will be in Myrtle Beach drinking beer and pretending that I like the beach.
The inclusion of so many Pennsylvania breweries was a happy accident brought on by sleep deprivation, but I’m sticking with it. I love the beers brewed in my commonwealth and thing that you should drink them no matter where you live. I will personally guide any and all beer tourists to the best breweries in PA. I mean… I’ll do it if I’m not busy. I’ll probably be busy… Have no fear, dear reader. We have plenty of fun the rest of the country in this edition of The Weekly Buzz, too.
The first golf major of the year is one that’s filled with mystique, nostalgia and fierce competition. The Masters, held at Augusta National in Augusta, Georgia, is defined by its majestic blooming azaleas and fast greens that test the nerves of even the most accomplished veteran golfer. It is, as Jim Nantz proclaims, “A tradition unlike any other.” For die hard golf fans, few things surpass Sunday at the Masters, capped off by the presentation of the famed green jacket to the tournament winner. As golfers worry about picking the right club, fans must be sure to pick the right beer. So, let us be your beer caddy.

Oh, how I love finding a big, bold, limited release beer from a large craft brewery with a great reputation. Behold my excitement when I reached into my dwindling stash of “cellar” beers and pulled out the Boulevard Brewing Rye-On-Rye X – Sazerac from their acclaimed Smokestack Series!
The first week of the year has been chock full of new beer and event announcements. Hopefully, this is a sign that 2017 will be a great year for craft beer. I’ve already started marking release dates on my calendar and making room in my refrigerator. Forget 2016. That was a garbage year. We’ve got to focus our positive energy on the next 359 days! Spring. Robins return to your lawn. Daffodils and tulips bloom.
