Valentine’s Day fell this week, and I have reaffirmed my love for beer. It is the sun to my moon and the surf to my turf. I mean my kids and lady are great, too, but have you tried beer? They should write a romantic comedy about me and beer. It would be a smash hit. Any Hollywood producers want to get that green-lit for me? Well, anyway, I was on Twitter this week, and this is The Weekly Buzz.
This was a pretty fun week for social media. Not only did the Super Bowl provide endless, hilarious supply of brewery-on-brewery trolling, but there was lots of other fun stuff, too. There were breweries checking in from beer festivals, new beers, distribution announcements, job listings, and more. Don’t worry. We caught all the shenanigans and distilled it down for easy consumption. This is The Weekly Buzz.
Dogfish Head Craft Brewery and AC Beverage, designers and installers of beer draft systems, have collaborated on an interesting new way to barrel age and for dispense craft beer. The Rack AeriAle is a draft beer dispensing system, which extracts barrel-aged beer that has been chilled and infused with nitrogen and carbon dioxide.
The NFL conference championships have been decided, and the Pro Bowl is this weekend. Does anyone watch the Pro Bowl? Anyone? Since none of you watch it, this will be a great weekend to head out and discover some new craft beers. When you find them, definitely mail them to me. I want all of them. The Weekly Buzz is ready to point you in all the right directions!
There’s a little pre-Super Bowl bonus content at the bottom, so make sure you read to the end!
Things are finally getting back to normal after the holidays. There are no more family gatherings to attend, and I’m no longer in denial about how fat I’ve gotten. Beer news on social media is quickly ramping back up as everyone returns to work. We’ve got events, new beers, returning old beers, job announcements, events, and shenanigans. It’s like I have a purpose again! Settle in and prepare to live vicariously through my Weekly Buzz.

The world of Star Trek: The Next Generation is nearly utopian. It is a post-scarcity world, where war, famine, and disease have been almost completely wiped out on Earth. People are free to pursue any profession they please, without the pressure of making ends meet. This leads to a boom in cultural and technological advancements.
Am I the only one who hasn’t started Christmas shopping yet? Usually, I’m done by now. I have a feeling that my Amazon Prime subscription is going to get a serious workout this year. If you’re in the same boat as me, you’ll need a break from the rigors of online shopping. Grab a fine craft beer, open a new tab in your web browser and dive into this week’s edition of The Weekly Buzz.
It’s dark when I go to work in the morning. It’s dark when I come home. Rather than sit next to a sun lamp, it’s much more fun to crack open a few craft brews. It’s my prescription for enduring the darkness. Also, on an unrelated note, I am not a medical professional. Pop the lid off the bottle, start taking your dose, and enjoy this week’s edition of The Weekly Buzz!
The delicious foods of Thanksgiving are behind us, and the darkness of Christmas shopping has enveloped us all. This week started out with three shopping holidays: Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday. What should I get my dad for Christmas? Does he already have a belt sander? I’m going to turn on my shower, curl up in the fetal position and wait for this all to blow over. You? You can pass your time with the beer news and shenanigans inside this edition of The Weekly Buzz.
Thanksgiving is a notoriously big drinking holiday. Whether you’re attending “Thanksgiving Eve” festivities at the local dive bar or trying to ignore the inappropriate rants of an older family member, beer can become a wonderful coping mechanism. The PorchDrinking staff is no different. Get a legal pad and prepare to take some notes. This is What We’re Drinking.
First and foremost, this week’s edition of The Weekly Buzz contains a big “Thank You” to all the veterans who have served this country. No matter what political affiliation you may hold, these people deserve our respect. Remember: It’s fine to disagree with your country’s motives for war or military action, but we, as citizens, must always continue to support the brave women and men who put their lives on the line to keep us safe. Thank you to all the veteran’s who have served.
Now that the serious stuff is out of the way, grab yourself a beer. It’s time to get buzzed.
Halloween is a week away, the leaves are falling from the trees, and the sun is setting earlier each day. Whether you are mourning the end of summer or celebrating the approaching winter, fall is a great season for beer drinking. Pour yourself a Märzen or Pumpkin Ale and prepare yourself for the latest in news and nonsense. This is The Weekly Buzz.
Autumn is in full swing. Oktoberfest’s and block parties are popping up nation-wide, and the hop harvest continues. Events for GABF are starting to roll in, and, of course, we found a little beer-related nonsense for you, too. All this …
This week was chock full of event announcements, new beer releases, and breweries giving back to the community. Hmm, am I forgetting anything? Only the grand opening of Stone’s location in Berlin, and a legendary collaboration brew that took place there! Ladies, gentlemen and children of all ages (but preferably over 21), this is The Weekly Buzz!

Dogfish Head has a knack for marking time — 60, 90 and 120-minute intervals. But, in the case of SeaQuench Ale, it’s not mere minutes that matter, it’s centuries. Five hundred years ago, the German brewing purity law, or Reinheitsgebot, gave birth to the prominence of the German lager we’ve all come to know and love. Sea Quench Ale honors that anniversary by simultaneously celebrating German brewing and ignoring that law.
There has been lots of news to comb through this week. Tax breaks were enacted, archaic beer laws were scrapped, and possible brewing industry job cuts loom on the horizon. You’ll find all that (plus other announcements and silliness) right here in this weeks’ edition of The Weekly Buzz!
I never really was a big fall guy. Tons of my friends are all about it. I just love summer, and I wail and moan when the first frost hits. What I do enjoy, however, about this time of year has to be the smells, specifically the hint of bite to the air as the temperature lowers and the winds pick up. Particularly, when the nights get really cold, the bonfires in backyards become commonplace, and the smell of firewood catches in the air and on one’s clothes. To go along with the welcome-to-fall fires, I have a Dogfish Head beer that I have, strangely enough, just stumbled upon: the Palo Santo Marron, a brown ale that packs a mighty punch.
Whenever I’m chillin’ at home alone and want to treat myself to something nice, I make lobster. It just makes me feel fancy. The other night, I was bored at home so I opted for a lobster pasta. I was thinking, “Hmm… a white wine garlic butter sauce would be nice, but a Festina Pêche garlic butter sauce might be better…” And so it happened.
