Samuel Adams | Octoberfest
October 9, 2015 | Lindsay KrumelABV: 5.3% | IBU: 16
Whether they were merely gateway beers or still remain part of regular rotation, Samuel Adams‘ seasonal beers have become staples. Offerings like Summer Ale and Winter Lager have ushered in the changing of the seasons for some time but none more iconic than their Octoberfest.

Dogfish Head Craft Brewed Ales | Choc Lobster
October 6, 2015 | Johnathan Pylant
ABV: 5.6% | IBU: 40 | Draft Only
There are few breweries that cause every American beer enthusiast to pause when their name is uttered. Dogfish Head has a foundation based on being one of those breweries that, when mentioned, everyone holds their breath in anticipation of hearing what is said next. Some amazing beers have come out of there, and I am not talking about exceptional IPAs or Brown ales. What I mean are collaborations with world renowned rock bands, a stout made from ingredients from each of the world’s continents, their Ancient Ales Series, and so much more. Maybe that is why I wasn’t taken aback when I found out, back in 2012, that they had brewed a beer with lobsters and cocoa. Read More

Drake’s Brewing Company | Denogginizer
October 1, 2015 | Victoria Pratt 1
ABV: 9.75% | IBU: 90
Drake’s Brewing Company, founded by Roger Lind, started in 1989 with two stainless steel dairy tanks, a fifteen barrel kettle, one fermenter, and a few British pub cellar tanks. The goal was simple: create good English-style ales. Eventually with the addition of fresh Pacific Northwest hops, top quality malt, and a neutral California ale yeast strain, the ales started to take a more distinct, west coast style. Years passed, recipes refined and evolved and in 2004 Drake’s created Denogginizer, a perfect nod to their English style roots along with a toast to their West Coast hop evolution, tying their past to their present.
Guinness | Nitro IPA
September 29, 2015 | Katelyn Pelak
ABV: 5.8% | IBU: 44
No, it’s not your GABF hangover playing tricks on your eyes, you read the title of this article correctly: Guinness is releasing an IPA. A Nitro IPA to be exact. PorchDrinking was invited to a pre-release tasting on the Nitro IPA’s three-week tour around the U.S. to sample the beer and get a little history lesson on the origins of the Guinness widget, the brewery, and the IPA style of beer itself.
The Unknown Brewing Co. | Hospitali–Tea Southern Amber Ale
September 28, 2015 | Johnathan PylantABV 5.4%
Have you seen the news lately? Summer refuses to relinquish its reign over the east coast. Personally, that just means more opportunities to pop the top on The Unknown Brewing Co.’s Hospitali–Tea Southern Amber Ale!
Odell Brewing Co. | Mountain Standard Double Black IPA
September 25, 2015 | Holly Gerard
ABV: 9.5%
This week marks the start of Autumn and while pumpkin beers seem to currently be the rage, I find myself always picking up a 4-pack of Odell Brewing Company’s Mountain Standard Double Black IPA come this time of year. This beer is around for a brief time each Autumn (as it is Odell’s current seasonal release) right around when we are all about to set our clocks back to “Mountain Standard Time”, it is quite the catchy name if you ask me! In conjunction to it being a dark beer and it getting dark at 5 p.m. soon, the name is even more clever the more you think about it. As much as I dread summer ending each year, I do look forward to the release of this special gem!

Creature Comforts | See The Stars Maple Bourbon Barrel Aged Stout
September 24, 2015 | Johnathan PylantABV: 10.9%
Creature Comforts Brewing Co. experienced a milestone this month that was marked with a handful of firsts for the brewery. They bottled their first barrel aged stout, which was released at their first bottle release event that turned out to be their largest event since opening. The entire event was calculated with as much attention to the details as possible. The beer, See the Stars, was more than a year in the making. The patience, initiative and discipline to make all this happen shines through the brew it became. Read More
Odell Brewing Company | Piña Agria
September 23, 2015 | Cecelia KathleenABV: 6.5% | IBU: 7
Around this time of year, I usually start pining for Odell Brewing Company’s yearly offering of the Friek, a sour ale made with cherries and raspberries. However, Odell recently debuted another beer from their Cellar Series, the Piña Agria, and it’s all I want to drink right now.
Bell’s Brewery | The Oracle DIPA
September 22, 2015 | Johnathan PylantABV: 10% | IBU: 90
Bell’s The Oracle DIPA is a west coast-style IPA brewed in Kalamazoo, MI. This hoptastic brew challenges the likes of Stone Brewing and Lagunitas Brewing with its hop forward dry bitter sensation that overwhelms taste buds with exuberant bliss. I would venture to say that Bell’s has succeeded in their attempt at the style and may have done better than a few indigenous brands. Read More

Hill Farmstead Brewery | George (American Brown Ale)

Vermont in the summer is something out of a dream. In between the rolling Green Mountains lie breathtaking backdrops, acres of farmland, and pleasant, wonderful people enjoying everything the mountain landscape has to offer. It’s so surreal that it can be hard for visitors to believe they’re experiencing reality.

Did you know that you might be drinking that Berliner Weisse all wrong? Well, that does depend on where you are when you ask that question. Modern Brewery | Green Goliath
September 9, 2015 | Niel Stender
ABV: 9.0%
Modern Brewery is a relatively new face on the St. Louis beer scene, having celebrated their one-year anniversary this year. But their brews are already creating a buzz. I’ve had several local beer lovers tell me about Green Goliath DIPA. A few months ago, I finally got a small taster of it and quickly understood the reason for the excitement. It rocks. So I was stoked that upon filling my first Synek bag a couple weeks later at a local bar, The Gramophone, to see Modern dominating the taps. Instead of a taster, I treated myself to an entire gallon.
