As a resident of West Wash Park for the past 16 years, Cody Higginbottom feels a deep kinship with his neighborhood. But that communal bond will be further deepened today when he officially opens Public Offering Brewing at 1736 South Broadway.
Sunroom Brewing celebrated its grand opening on Sept. 30 as one of the Denver-area’s newest breweries. Located directly behind one of Englewood’s more intimate concert venues, The Gothic Theater, the family-run brewery serves up a range of beer styles in an airy taproom with a large enclosed patio.
Aging beer in spirits barrels is nothing new in the world of beer, but some breweries are placing an increased emphasis on this style, creating dedicated series of beers that solely focus on barrel aging in its various forms. New Image is one of those breweries taking their barrel aging game to the next level with the creation of the Anaphora and Noema (pronounced No – Emma) series of Stouts. While Anaphora will focus on massaging the utmost flavor out of barrels without the use of adjuncts, Noema seeks to enhance the natural flavors of barrels by working with additives. New Image Brewing Noema Blend 2 is a showcase example of New Image’s vision and flawless execution.
With an early-February snowstorm blowing in, it seemed an ideal time to kick off off Stout Month by landing at Denver’s FlyteCo Brewing for a Ski Plane Stout.
Lovers of traditional Stout will be pleased. Ski Plane Stout is a straight-up version of a dry Stout. It has characteristic bitterness and roast malt flavors up front, with undertones of chocolate.
Peanut butter fans will find a lot to love in Downhill Brewing Saturday Nut Fever Peanut Butter Brown. This brew packs in a strong dose of nutty flavors along with complementary chocolate and roast notes. The overall experience is much like peanut butter on dark chocolate.
It’s the season for big, robust beers and Launch Pad Brewing Joint Activities Baltic Porter certainly fits that bill. With rich, dark roast-malt flavor and an ABV of 9% this brew will see you through the coldest days of January.
Launch Pad Brewing in Aurora, Colorado, kicked off its sixth anniversary Thursday night with four new releases and the start of a fun-filled weekend. The releases featured a little something for everyone, from a light Italian Pilsner to one of Launch Pad’s signature barrel-aged offerings.
Although it’s one of Colorado’s top five independent craft brewers by volume, Sleeping Giant Brewing Company neither serves nor sells beer onsite. While this may seem counter-intuitive, Sleeping Giant is a dedicated contract brewer, meaning it only produces beer for other breweries–it has no beer brand of its own. Matthew Osterman, founder and owner, recently discussed this important and little-understood part of the craft brewing industry.
The U.S. boasts a large and diverse number of veteran-owned breweries. With Veteran’s Day coming up on Wednesday, Nov. 11, it seemed like a great time to look at why military service provides practical preparation for brewery ownership by checking in with Wild Blue Yonder Brewing Co. in Castle Rock, CO.
“We were just another set of yahoos trying to make it happen,” Jeff Smith, owner and brewer at LUKI Brewery in Arvada, Colorado says. “There are so many delusions of grandeur, so I respect the professional collective apathy at yet another ‘homebrewer going pro’ story.”
In 2018, Smith quit his job to focus on the brewery full-time, unaware (as we all were) of the pandemic that would soon ravage the industry. When his family cut the ribbon on LUKI (a combination of his daughters’ names) in July of 2020, Smith’s “delusions of grandeur” manifested into a wild new reality: A fun, circus-themed brewery on the west side of Arvada.
In the mid-summer heat a cold, crisp lager hits the spot and Strange Craft Beer Company’s Happy Hour lager is no exception. The Czech session beer has just enough complexity to keep things interesting but doesn’t overdo it and make you overexert yourself on a hot summer afternoon.
As the nation slowly begins to open back up, the public rubs the quarantined sleep from its
eyes, tightens their masks and steps out into socially distanced summer patios, eager to taste
what little bit of summer we are allowed to have.
Like an adult candy cane, Lloyd Christmas Peppermint Chocolate Porter from 3 Freaks Brewery in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, offers a minty, tasty holiday treat that captures the spirit of the season. Each year the brewery tweaks the recipe to explore new flavor profiles; the 2019 version seems more mint-centric and somewhat lighter on the chocolate than previous incarnations.
Located in the heart of Brighton, CO, Something Brewery has been pleasing craft beer lovers since they opened the doors of their tasting room in 2015. With extraordinary service and outstanding beers, there’s no doubt why they’re such a popular brewery. The music and ambiance fosters a welcoming and fun atmosphere, leaving you wanting to stay and hang out with your friends and family; you may even make some new friends while you’re there!
Personally, one of my favorite beer styles is sours, but not everyone feels the same way I do. I could go on for days about all the different reasons that I like sours, but that still wouldn’t change the opinion of someone that doesn’t like the style. I believe that sours are like IPAs for people that haven’t tried very much of the style. When someone first tries IPAs they tend to be overwhelmed by the hoppiness and intense bitterness, and the same concept applies with sours. Not all beer drinkers are used to the mouth-puckering sourness you get from some sours and that can turn people off. By creating the Sour Beer Project Series, Kannah Creek Brewing Company set out on a mission to help introduce people to sour beers.
