New Belgium Brewing | Holiday Ale

December 6, 2022 |

I don’t know when exactly it started, but at some point in my voracious drinking career, I realized that I mentally connect certain breweries with certain seasons. During June and July, I almost exclusively drink from Outer Range Brewing—whatever they’re making automatically becomes my summer go-to. Then when the leaves change and the nights get cooler, all I want is Odell Brewing: their amber ale, their tropical sour; I don’t care about the style, I just want whatever they’re brewing. And, for as long as I can remember, my winter palate has belonged to New Belgium Brewing.

What’s a Kettle Sour All About?

December 21, 2021 |

What’s the difference between a Kettle Sour and a traditional sour? Is there even a difference? It’s a question that I hear frequently as breweries continually explore new beer styles. The answer is that yes, there are critical differences in the flavors of the beers and in how they’re made.

New Belgium’s Torched Earth Ale for Earth Day Is, Literally, Hot Garbage

April 22, 2021 |

I’m not sure it’s appropriate to say “Happy Earth Day” anymore. In the face of our rapidly warming planet, the destruction of our natural resources, and the extinction of countless species, it seems more fitting to simply say, “Remember How Much We Blew It?” and reflect fondly on how the Indian cheetah used to exist. In fact, because of this grim state of the world, Earth Day is best celebrated in two ways – taking action, and drinking a beer.

New Belgium’s Fan-Favorite Tart Lychee Returns for Limited Release

October 6, 2020 |

Sometimes a beer can be so memorable, so unique and so remarkable that even after being discontinued, it continues to reverberate in the memories of its fans for years on end. New Belgium Brewing’s Tart Lychee first appeared as a taproom-only release as far back as 2009, was more widely released in 2011 as part of the brewery’s Lips of Faith series and was revived in 2016. Now, the popular wood-aged Golden Sour with pureed lychee fruit and cinnamon is finally back once again.

Christmas Classics | New Belgium Brewing Foeder Frambozen

December 18, 2019 |

When it comes to holiday beers, New Belgium Brewing had the market cornered for years with Frambozen: a medium-bodied brown ale awash with fresh raspberries and a delightfully festive pinkish head. The seasonal release was eagerly anticipated every year, and when they discontinued this brew back in 2015, I mourned the loss deeply.

Luckily, though, fans of the tartly fruited brown ale have been treated to new iterations of the classic over the past few years. An imperial version with cocoa was delightfully similar to the original, with subtle hints of chocolate that deepened the overall flavor without adding too much sweetness. I suspect it was the success of that iteration that brings us to the current limited release: New Belgium Brewing Foeder Frambozen.

That is the case with New Belgium Brewing’s wood-aged sour program, which is the oldest in the United States. The program has created sour trendsetters like La Folie; all the while continuing to set the mark for what consumers should look for in a good wood-aged sour.

New Belgium at The Source | A Community Based Brewery Experience

February 1, 2019 |

As the fourth-largest craft brewery in the country, New Belgium Brewing has the reputation of doing big things in the industry. However, their newest project at the just-opened Source Hotel seems to be in stark contrast to this model. The 10-barrel brewing system, run by brewer Geoff Wenzel, plans to focus on small-batch, artisanal creations with an emphasis on the Source community.

The Source, a former iron factory, was one of the first buildings in the country to put together the concept of a multi-use, multi-vendor space for patrons to explore and enjoy. Taking the idea of craft and re-imagining it through the lens of food and drink, The Source has created a hub of very talented and imaginative artisans. Seeing this concept come to life, New Belgium approached the Zeppelin team to become a part of this collaborative culture in 2014 and has been a critical part of making this vision become a reality ever since. New Belgium Partners with The Source Hotel on The Woods Rooftop Bar

August 20, 2018 |

The long-awaited project pairing a budding local mixed-use development empire in Zeppelin Places, with one of craft beer’s most storied pioneers, New Belgium Brewing, has finally opened to the public.

The Source Hotel, the fourth major mixed-use space in Denver’s River North Art District from the Zeppelin team following Taxi, The Source and Zeppelin Station, has been a long time coming. In fact, New Belgium Brewing and Kyle Zeppelin’s team had been collaborating on this project since 2014. Normal construction delays and accidents made opening a practice of patience for everyone involved, but the excitement was palpable as Kyle Zepplin (developer), Stephen Dynia (architect) David Stutz (The Source Hotel GM) and Kim Jordan (New Belgium) addressed the crowd at the soft-opening this past Thursday.
