Kannah Creek Brewing Co. | Crossed Irons

If you’re an experienced fan of craft beer, I bet there are a few seasonal beer releases you look forward to every year. Maybe you’re waiting for a big and burly barrel-aged stout, a strong holiday ale, or perhaps a super-hoppy triple IPA that people wait hours to taste. While I love many of these beers, today I’d like to suggest an understated spring release from Colorado’s Kannah Creek Brewing Company, Crossed Irons. Granted, an Irish Red isn’t the type of brew that usually has people lining up around the block, but how about one that supports a good cause? Read More

This is going to be a BIG year for craft beer. Many breweries who started developing around the beginning of the craft beer resurgence have begun distributing their product more widely, and several of the country’s largest breweries are set for major expansions. With that wider distribution and those expansions, we’ll begin seeing tons of new beers hitting store shelves.

Event Preview | Beers Made By Walking Festival
October 1, 2014 | Laura Graham 1This week, folks from across the country will flock to Denver, Colorado for the Great American Beer Festival. While here, they’ll partake in one of the greatest events our city hosts, undoubtedly stumbling upon beautiful architecture, delicious food, and incredible people during their stay.
Fall in Colorado is host to indescribable mountain beauty, and what a shame it is that GABF visitors might only catch a glimpse of the changing Aspen trees from an airplane flying in. If you can’t make it to the great outdoors this week, bring the great outdoors to you at the Beers Made By Walking Festival October 3rd at Wynkoop Brewing Company.

New Belgium Brewing | Lips of Faith: Wild² Dubbel
September 15, 2014 | Chris DayABV: 8%
IBU: 30
As one might expect from the name, New Belgium Brewing has a long-standing reputation built on producing solid Belgian-style beers including their Abbey ale, Trippel, and even Fat Tire, a ubiquitous brew which undoubtedly marked the beginning of many a casual beer drinker’s insobrietous journey to certified beer geek. As such, I was excited to find Wild² Dubbel, a new entry in their Lips of Faith series in a local bottle shop. What makes this dubbel wild? Well, it’s brewed with Schisandra berries, also known as the “five taste fruit” and finished with Brettanomyces. The five flavors promised by the berry are sour, sweet, salty, bitter, and spicy. Brett is something I generally enjoy, but not being familiar with Schisandra, I wasn’t sure what to expect as I opened the bottle.
Event Recap| Chive Fest Denver
August 26, 2014 | AdminKiller music, more tank tops than Justin Bieber’s wardrobe, Chivettes, KCCO Beers, and Blow up dolls, that pretty much sums up Chive Fest Denver. Our preview of the event was astonishingly accurate save for the prediction of the aforementioned blowup dolls but hey we’re all inclined to oversight once and a while.
Odell Brewing Company | Perle White IPA
July 18, 2014 | Chris DayABV: 5.5%
Do you remember the first time you tasted a white IPA? While enjoying a Chainbreaker a few years ago, I wondered if these wheaty-hoppy hybrids would ever catch on. Little did I know it would soon find a home on seemingly every taplist in Denver. While albino IPAs have become increasingly popular nationwide, we’ve only seen a few examples of the style from Colorado brewers. When I heard that Odell Brewing, the Ft. Collins brewery responsible for perhaps my favorite Colorado IPA, were releasing their Perle White IPA this summer, my tastebuds stood at rapt attention. Read More

Stem Ciders | Banjo Cider
May 30, 2014 | Laura GrahamPost-Memorial Day my taste buds begin to boycott woody, smoky porters better suited for cold, cloudy days of yore and turn to crisp, refreshing flavors that pair nicely with patios and sunburns. I’m from an Irish/Scottish family (see: sunburns) whose fridges and cellars were always stocked with a variety of ciders. Countless times growing up, I sat with my family while they told stories and sang songs – stealing sips of their ciders, trying not to get caught.
