I could talk about it….you know. The Election. But I won’t. Some people are unhappy with the results and the road that lies ahead. Today isn’t about that, though. Today is Veteran’s Day and we want to honor those who have fought so hard for our freedom. Today we honor Mothers, Fathers, Sisters, Brothers, Friends. These are the people who matter! So raise a toast to someone you know who has given their all to keep our country great, always.
Raise your hand if your’e still in complete and utter awe over Wednesday night’s victorious outcome for the Chicago Cubs? Not all of us at PorchDrinking are die-hard Cubbies fans, but we can all agree that Game 7 was one of the most epic sporting events in history. And if you’re still feeling the effects of the severe lack of sleep from several late night games this week, you’re just as happy as we are that it’s the weekend. Here’s What We’re Drinking.
We may be well into the fall season, but over at PorchDrinking, we tend to drink what we want. Sure, we have our seasonal favorites, but we really enjoy drinking what we want, when we want it. So grab your favorite brew, sit back, and check out What We’re Drinking.
To some people, the coming of October signifies fall and all of its glory: cooler temps, bonfires, and all things pumpkin. To others, October is a month long celebration of Halloween where we gorge ourselves on candy and dress up in crazy costumes. While too much candy can leave one feeling slightly hungover from the sugar crash, we think Halloween candy and beer make the perfect companions, in the right proportions of course. Curious what your favorite candy pairs with? Read on for our recommendation on all sorts of treats.
Have you ever been on a trip out of state and done quite a bit of beer shopping? You know, you casually search out all the best places to find local craft beer to drink while you’re on your trip. But you end up not drinking any of it because you’re attending a wedding that has plenty o’ booze, so you decide you should probably attempt to pack all the beer into your checked luggage. There’s no way it could be over 50 lbs, right? But you find out that your luggage is over the weight limit and have to remove 12 lbs worth of crap from your checked luggage and shove it into your carry-ons. You don’t know what that’s like? Oh good, neither do I.
Here’s what we’re drinking this week.
Did you wake up this morning, look at the calendar and wonder if it is actually Friday today? Luckily, you’re not alone. One of the many rewards of a Monday holiday is a shorter work week. Some PorchDrinkers traveled over the holiday weekend, some stayed home, and unfortunately some had to work. Despite these differences, we all had one thing in common this week: we enjoyed a delicious brew. Check out what we imbibed in this week’s edition of What We’re Drinking!
Southbound Brewing Co. opened its brew kettle in May 2013 as the first production microbrewery in Savannah, Georgia. It is the brainchild of Smith Mathews and Carly Wiggins. But the story begins long before Southbound’s name was ever uttered.
Guess who’s back, back again? The PorchDrinking team has rejoined forces to bring back our weekly What We’re Drinking series. As the evenings grow shorter, the temperature begins to drop and we all know that summer is quickly coming to an end. Because of this, we are drinking whatever the hell we want. We love our seasonal brews but let’s be completely honest here. We love #allthebeers. So cheers to another awesome week and hoping we can stretch a little more out of this summer.
Creature Comforts Brewing Co.’s Automatic Pale Ale comes straight out of Athens, Georgia which was just voted the number one city in the SEC for craft beer. And for very good reasons. Creature Comforts Brewing Co. is killing it with their current lineup, sending beer geeks all around Georgia in search of their popular brews. Automatic Pale Ale is their newest canned beer, released this summer, and it is causing excitement across the Southeast.
Zika virus. Contaminated water. Unsuitable living conditions. Terrorist threats. The 2016 Rio Olympics are surrounded by depressing headlines. We at PorchDrinking like to view life on the brighter side, so we paired six Summer Olympic events with six seemingly-perfect craft beers.
One day I was scrolling through social media, when an event caught my eye. BREWSTER Women’s Brew Day at Holy City Brewing in Charleston, SC. An event just for women, and we get to brew at an actual brewery? Sure, I’ve seen the act of brewing beer on countless brewery tours. My husband is also an avid home brewer, so mashing in is something I am familiar with. But an event created solely for women to collaborate on a traditionally male activity? Count me in!
Union General William Tecumseh Sherman torched most of the Confederate South on his 1864 March to the Sea, but his swath of destruction met its end when he came upon the lovely city of Savannah, GA. Overcome by its beauty and bounty, tough old Sherman presented an unscathed Savannah to President Abraham Lincoln as a Christmas gift. – Service Brewing Co.

As the number of craft breweries in the United States rises, it is only logical that the number of service providers for the industry should grow as well. This includes services in regards to the legal side of owning a brewery. One specialized team has taken on this challenge.
