Christian Moerlein Brewing Company | Bay Of Bengal
October 23, 2017 | Craft Beer JoeWho Dey! If you don’t know what that means, then you haven’t watched the NFL in a very long time. That is the chant you’ll hear from the crowd at any Cincinnati Bengals game; as well as, what I scream every time I crack open a can of Christian Moerlein Bay Of Bengal.

Wit’s End Brewing Closing Current Location to Join Strange Craft Beer
October 20, 2017 | Tristan Chan 1It’s been a tumultuous week for the Denver craft beer scene beginning with news that Asheville’s Thirsty Monk has acquired the space currently inhabited by Deep Draft Brewing and that Deep Draft would in turn close. Earlier today the Westword also reported that De Steeg Brewing has been acquired by new ownership, who plans to retool the four year old brewery and add another brand in Blind Faith Brewing focusing on Belgian-styles. However today’s announcement that Wit’s End Brewing will be closing it’s current location and move operations to share brewing and taproom space with Strange Craft Beer at 1330 Zuni Street, signals a more significant shift in the landscape of Denver’s craft beer scene.
WeldWerks Brewing Announces Plans to Host WeldWerks Invitational Festival
October 20, 2017 | Tristan ChanTo say that WeldWerks Brewing has had a big year simply would not do enough justice to the meteoric rise experienced by the two and a half year old Greeley, CO-based brewery. Days prior to their statement gold medal victory at the 2017 Great American Beer Festival, in the Wood and Barrel-Aged Strong Stout category for Medianoche, that same bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout saw a release along side Medianoche Reserve, a specialty variation of Medianoche aged on toasted coconuts, that sold out of 500 tickets within seconds. This year’s medal is actually the second GABF win for WeldWerks, which earned a silver medal for their Hefeweizen in the American Style Wheat Beer with Yeast category in 2015 as well.

Goose Island Brewhouse | Out With The Old, In With The New
October 19, 2017 | Mathew Powers 3The pillars are gone. John Hall is gone. The cozy, public house atmosphere is gone. But, the revamped Goose Island Brewhouse oozes elegance; it’s clean, modern and sophisticated. You won’t see any Anheuser Busch InBev (ABI) signs in the taproom, but evidence of the company’s influence is impossible to miss. It’s hard not to ooh and ahh at the grander things in life, like an expensive sports car or a large home — the new Goose Island Brewhouse exemplifies that concept.
Surly Brewing Co. Spreads Darkness Day to the Midwest
October 19, 2017 | Taylor Laabs 1In 2007, Surly Brewing Co. created the first variant of Darkness, its bold Russian Imperial Stout. Momentum for the beer was slow at first, but after arriving to work one Saturday morning in October to a line of fervent Surly fans wondering when Darkness was ready, Surly’s Founder Omar Ansari knew they had a hit. Now, Surly celebrates the annual release with the aptly named Darkness Day, happening October 21st. this year. Even better, this year, Surly’s wave of ghastly Darkness stouts and Black Ales are spreading farther into their distribution footprint, particularly in the Midwest. Here are the release details you need to know.

SweetWater Brewing Co. | Dank Tank Fresh Sticky Nugs, Hazy Imperial IPA
October 18, 2017 | Jose MinayaSweetWater Brewing Company turns the dank dial to the max with their latest Dank Tank Fresh Sticky Nugs. Let’s all take a moment and remember the first time we tried an intensely hoppy IPA. The bracing bitterness and intense aromas that felt so dominating back then are not as common today. Sure, part of that is due to acclimating to the hops but also the trend away from the classic hop varietals to more boutique and less bitter hop strains. But Fresh Sticky Nugs delivers the nostalgia in spades!

This brings their lifetime medal count to 47, but that isn’t even the astonishing part of this story. Oskar Blues Brewery | Fugli
October 17, 2017 | Dan OldsA few months I was searching the shelves for beers I had never tried. One in particular caught my attention, Fugli from Oskar Blues Brewery. Oskar Blues, like many breweries, frequently uses clever names that grab people’s attention. Immediately I questioned the reasoning of “Fugli” for something that was supposed to taste so delicious. I assume we all know what two words are added together that form something that by definition means “very unattractive.” Falling into the category of things I think are “fugli” are the ugly duckling from the book I read when I was a kid, the bright green house with brown trim at the end of my block, and the 2017 New York Giants offense. Colorado Brewery Openings for October, November & December 2017
October 16, 2017 | Brian Phipps 1Autumn in Colorado might be the best showcase of why the Centennial State is so great. Oh, let me count the ways:
- We still have the warm days to sport our flops like how one is supposed to.
- We have the cold to days to sport our flops like how one is not advertised to do so.
- The mountains getting their first pow-pow!
- GABF
- The Broncos are looking good. The Rockies made the playoffs for the first time since 2009. The Nuggets are prepping for a possible return to the playoffs. And the Avs are… aiming to improve, as we all are.
- There’s G-A-B-F!!!
- Oktoberfest beers, a whole day (more like all-month) to dress-up, pumpkin beers, Christmas ales, and holidays (aka great times to share your favorite brews with friends and family).
- GABF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pelican Brewing Company | Captain of the Coast
October 16, 2017 | Hannah CarlsonFall has arrived, and I can’t say that I’m upset about it. This time of year brings out that rich, golden foliage, pumpkin-spiced everything, and the years-old sweaters that have been hiding in the back of your closet. But perhaps best of all, fall brings barrel-aged beers that are perfect for the season – as breweries finally debut their much-anticipated releases. One of the best releases to come from this fall’s barrel-aged line-up is undoubtedly Captain of the Coast, a Wee Heavy Ale aged in Dry Fly Wheat Whiskey Barrels, from my favorite coastal brewery, Pelican Brewing Company.
