Held concurrently with GABF, the Epic Brewing 50 Firkin Fiasco provided beer fans with a bevy of experimental beers along with a plenty of food and live music.

Fast Facts on Corridor Brewery & Provisions’ First Canned Beer: SqueezIt
October 12, 2017 | Taylor LaabsWhen I first moved to Chicago in 2014, DryHop Brewers was the first brewery I visited, as they had just started as well. Now, more than three years later, the folks at DryHop and its sister brewery, Corridor Brewery & Provisions, have become a staple of Chicago’s Northside. As you grow up, you change; for breweries, that usually means expanding distribution and moving into new packaging, which was why I was excited to hear that Corridor plans to release their uber-popular SqueezIt Double Dry Hopped Double IPA in 16oz cans. Hear from Ryan Wibby, the Brewer Who Proposed On-Stage at GABF
October 12, 2017 | Tristan ChanThere are iconic moments at GABF, such as last year when Charlie Papazian proceeded to fist-bump himself after being recognized by Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper for the 35th Anniversary of the Great American Beer Festival. Papazian would also go on to fist bump the baby of Ryan Skeels of Baere Brewing when they won a bronze medal in the Saison category.
Weyerbacher Brewing | Dallas Sucks
October 12, 2017 | Dan BortzLike most residents of southeastern Pennsylvania, I am a Philadelphia Eagles fan. If there is one truth that any good Eagles fan holds above all others, it is the fact that the Dallas Cowboys are the scourge of the NFC East and must be destroyed. There’s definitely someone over at Weyerbacher who bleeds green because they have just released the perfect beer for tailgating at Lincoln Financial Field. They even gave it the perfect name: Dallas Sucks.

Urban Chestnut Brewing Co. | Oachkatzlschwoaf
October 11, 2017 | Jordan PalmerSorry Smuckers, but this beer’s name has got you beat, and because of the name, I have to say—with a name like Oachkatzlschwoaf, it’s got to be good.
This Urban Chestnut Beer Co. brew is pronounced “oh-khut-zel-schvoaf” but you can call it “O-Katz.” The translation means “tail of a squirrel”… a little Bavarian humor, if you will. This malty yet well-balanced Märzen (Oktoberfest Lager) is easy to drink but difficult to pronounce.

October 10, 2017 | Mike ZollerTo celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Festival of Wood & Barrel-Aged Beers (FoBAB), event organizers have released the complete list of breweries that will be pouring prior to the event for the first time ever. While the specific beers can’t be listed due to the competition and judging aspect tied to the festival, more hype has been added for the November event as festival-goers now have a preview of what’s to come.
Stoup Brewing & Wander Brewing | Mabel’s Brew
October 10, 2017 | Hannah CarlsonIf you know anything about craft beer in the state of Washington, you have undoubtedly heard about Stoup Brewing, of Seattle, and Wander Brewing, of Bellingham. Both breweries are extremely reputable within the craft community, and are known as establishments that are unafraid to innovate and experiment—while promising excellent and unwavering quality. The consequence of these pushed boundaries and high standards, is, frankly, just really good beer. Lucky for us, Stoup and Wander teamed up earlier this year at the Collaboration Fest—bringing their techniques, creativity, and obsession for quality together at last. The result, Mabel’s Brew—an East Coast IPA that doesn’t let us down.

Terrapin Beer Company | Dave’s Not Here
October 9, 2017 | Anna DacostaAlright hop heads, gather around! This is a good one. The flavors are apparent in the aroma alone, leaving you the only option to drink this brew from Terrapin Beer Company right away to find out how delicious it is. This bottle was poured into a pint glass on a rainy afternoon and enjoyed on the back porch. A beautiful golden amber color appeared with a thin head. I felt really fortunate to get this and was confident I would enjoy the beer.

LIVE DRAFT | 2017 GABF Fantasy Brewery Draft
October 5, 2017 | Tristan ChanWe here at PorchDrinking believe beer should be fun. So four years ago we set out to add a different take on the Great American Beer Festival by inviting a mix of national and local writers to participate in our GABF Fantasy Brewery Draft. Each year we draft breweries based on how we believe they’ll finish during GABF awards ceremony and earn points based on those finishes.
The Veil Brewing Company | Coconut Hornswoggler
October 5, 2017 | Scott JohnsonThe Veil Brewing Company’s is still gathering long lines of dedicated fans from across the United States for their phenomenal beers. Yet, what I really appreciate about them is that even though they are considered one of the best breweries in Virginia; they do not rest on their laurels. They are willing to alter a perfect recipe just to give drinkers a new flavor experience. Hornswoggler has worked as the great canvas to show off their brewing skills by using difficult ingredients beyond what anyone could have believed.

October 4, 2017 | Chris DayThe Great American Beer Festival is an amazing experience. With almost 800 breweries pouring 3,500 beers, the buzz and hype is understandable and justified. However, in all the excitement surrounding the fest, it’s easy to forget the breweries who aren’t attending, even ones a few miles from the convention center. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, you won’t get the whole GABF week experience without seeing what the rest of the Denver beer scene has to offer.
