With the MLB All-Star Game festivities having been in Denver the past few days, we’ve gotten to see a substantial amount of traffic going through our local breweries, as baseball fans flocked to Denver. We even had some breweries creating some baseball-themed beers, like Denver Beer Co., which released Big League Sticky since we last talked. Brave Noise Collaboration Beer Launches Globally to Advocate for a Safe, Inclusive Industry

When Brienne Allan, Brewer at Notch Brewing, asked a question via an Instagram story: “Have you ever experienced sexism in the beer industry?” the floodgates unexpectedly opened with personal stories exposing the pervasive nature of the industry’s deep-seated misogyny, harassment, racism, and sexual assault.

At that moment, there was no turning back and the craft beer industry was finally going to have a long-overdue reckoning that would consume high-profile breweries, beer education organizations, and many more across the industry.

Brewery Showcase | Buried Acorn Brewing Co.

After opening their doors in July 2018, Buried Acorn Brewing Co. became the ninth brewery to open in Syracuse, NY. Owner and brewer Tim Shore has been passionate towards craft beer for as long as he can remember.

Growing up in Syracuse, Shore said he was able to enjoy a lot of breweries that surround the area such as Saranac Brewery and Genesee Brewery. He also lived in Rehoboth, DE where he frequently visited Dogfish Head which made him realize that he wanted to work in the beer industry. For 10 years, Shore lived in Chicago, working in various brewpubs before moving back to his hometown and opening his own brewery.

Black Bottle Brewery has been cranking out a wide variety of beer in Midtown Fort Collins, Colorado since they first opened their doors in 2012. The history of a Cold IPA is relatively new, but the development is credited to Wayfinder Beer out of Portland, Ore. Cold IPAs are a thing of beauty and smell the part too. Imperiale Beer Project | Masa Brentwood IPA

What started with a large genus of the American IPA further whittles down to your West Coast IPA and New England IPA, and even giving states their own with the Colorado IPA giving rise in the mid-2010s. But getting as niche as a city? Brentwood, California is a small city that sits on the fringes of the East Bay but can feel worlds away with its vast array of farmland that surrounds the adorable downtown. Mostly known for their cherry, peach, and corn production and a smattering of u-pick-it farms, this small community just got its first brewery. The newly minted Imperiale Beer Project wanted to pay homage to the agricultural background of the city they call home with their Masa Brentwood IPA.

Foundation Brewing Co. | My Jam Sour Fruited Ales

As waves crash against the rocky coast and boisterous gulls soar over historic brick buildings and sidewalks, Portland, Maine slowly begins to see the hustle and bustle of summer tourists return. According to C+R Research, as of 2021, Portland has the highest number of breweries per capita nationwide with 18 per 50,000 people and no visit to Portland is complete without multiple brewery stops.

Although there are fourteen breweries or brewpubs alone to visit on Portland’s three-mile-long peninsula, it is well worth it to make the journey inland to Industrial Way, where five different breweries reside. Thirsty beer drinkers are known to stroll from one tasting room to another, enjoying a wide range of beer styles and food trucks. With Allagash Brewing Co. as the cornerstone of the neighborhood, the industrial buildings on this aptly named road quickly filled with brewery upstarts during the initial craft boom of the 2010s and thrives today as the home of Foundation Brewing Co.

18th Street Brewery | Devil’s Cup Pale Ale

Just a stone’s throw from the saturated market that is Chicago, and in the large shadow that is cast by craft beer darlings, Three Floyds, sits 18th Street Brewery. Since opening their doors in 2013, 18th Street has kept their nose to the grindstone, cranking out some mighty fine beers for close to a decade.

Despite being just a neighborhood brewery in Indiana, 18th Street is no stranger to national acclaim. They’ve been invited to coveted beer fests such as Wake Fest, collaborated with cool-kid breweries like Mikkeller, and were voted top brewpub in the nation by USA Today in 2019. 18th Street may not have the mainstream popularity of their aforementioned neighbor yet, but the beer they produce continues to earn them industry cred and respect of their peers that hype can’t buy.

With the state opening up more heavily this week, more and more new releases are trickling out. One thing to keep in mind while you’re going out in search of a new beer or two for this weekend is what each brewery’s policy is on wearing masks. Don’t disrespect the staff members if you don’t agree with the policy that the brewery has implemented.

If you haven’t been vaccinated yet, the perfect time might be this weekend. WeldWerks is hosting a walk-up clinic on the 22nd from 1pm – 5:30pm, with every participant receiving a free pint, and a limited edition can of “I Got Vaccinated”. Already been vaccinated, but want to get a free can of “I Got Vaccinated”? Just bring your vaccination card into the brewery starting on the 22nd to pick up a can for yourself too!

Mexico Calling from Cruz Blanca Brewery is the beer that Mexican lagers should aspire to be. In recent years, there has been an influx of breweries trying their hand at making a craft version of one the most macro styles of beer on the market.
