NEWS | Anheuser-Busch Acquires Wicked Weed Brewing

This morning, Anheuser-Busch InBev (ABI), the world’s largest brewery conglomerate, announced the acquisition of Wicked Weed Brewing.
The Asheville, NC brewery began as a 15 barrel pub system in 2012, founded by brothers Walt and Luke Dickinson along with friends Ryan, Rick and Denise Guthy, Originally focused on West Coast style IPAs and Belgians, Wicked Weed quickly developed a reputation for wild, sour and experimental barrel-aged beers. This progression led to the opening of their Funkatorium sour beer taproom and barrel-aging facility in 2014, a second 50 barrel production facility in 2015, and most recently The Funk House and company headquarters which houses a custom designed brewhouse and training facility.

Like many large to mid-sized breweries in the country, Ska Brewing (Durango, CO) has begun eyeing the next phase of growth to keep up with the rising demands and competition in the craft beer industry. In 2017 that’ll take the form of a brewery expansion, new beers and an expanded beer garden at the brewery.
Avery Brewing Returns to Connecticut Shelves

Boulder’s Avery Brewing Co. announced earlier this month that they would be returning distribution to Connecticut, after leaving the state in 2011 because of financial reasons and growing pains.
Connecticut was one of eight states Avery exited from six years ago, as they had lost “the ability to support all markets with a steady supply of fresh beer,” a press release said at the time. Now, due to a new brewery that opened in 2015 with the capabilities to produce 150,000 barrels, Avery says that can start to handle the larger demand and return to some of places they had to leave.

The Billings, Montana based brewers are collaborating on four beers this year, an impressive feat for any brewery let alone one based out of Montana. “Collaboration Fest stands out as unique in a sea of very similar festival formats. Not only is Collaboration Fest unique but it has a very special energy and vibe,” says Überbrew “Beer Apostle” Chad Broderius.

Over the past four years, Collaboration Fest has grown to represent the foundation of which this industry was built upon. Fostering a deep sense of community, pairing neighbors, friends from across the country, entire geographical regions, and even breweries from across the globe, Collaboration Fest celebrates the partnership of breweries near and far, coming together to brew unique, one-off beers specifically to be showcased at the festival.
This year’s 4th Annual Collaboration Fest taking place on Saturday, March 25 at The National Western Sports Complex, will be upping the ante to include over 110 unique beers from over 150 breweries. The event runs from 4-7pm for General Admission ticket holders with a VIP ticket holders having access to the festival from 3-7pm. Tickets are currently available for $60 for General Admission with VIP ringing in at $85.
