Three Renowned Midwest IPA Makers Got Together and Made a Coffee Stout
November 5, 2019 | Taylor Laabs 1Surly Brewing’s Furious IPA is one of the most well-known beers in Minnesota. The hazy IPAs, most notably Dreamyard IPA, coming from their Northeast neighbors, Modist Brewing, are some of the most popular in the state. Not to be out-done, Chicago’s Mikerphone Brewing’s musically-inspired IPA and stout releases frequently generate lines around the block. So, when Surly recently brought brewers from Modist and Mikerphone to their brewhouse to make a new collaboration beer, the result had to have been an IPA, right? Wrong. Instead, the latest, and perhaps most adventurous edition of Surly’s BC Small Batch series is Magic Formula for Peace, a coffee stout made with citrus.
Twitch + Beer | A Few Options to Enjoy While Watching Live Streams
November 5, 2019 | Karen MillsTwitch has become an increasingly popular platform since it launched back in 2011. Now, in 2019, the platform reported having over 15 million daily active users who watch video streams. Although Twitch streams cover a plethora of genres, market researcher Newzoo reported that eSports account for 21.3% of Twitch viewing; Which doesn’t really come as a surprise with the popularity of Fortnite and gaming influencers/professional gamers such as Dr. Disrespect, Tfue, and Ninja (who actually announced an exclusive partnership with Microsoft’s Mixer streaming platform so he is no longer active on Twitch). Like many other activities, cracking a beer while watching your favorite stream can only enhance the experience. Although I personally have not dabbled much in the world of Twitch, I’m very fortunate enough to be dating someone who is. So, he was not only able to teach me more about one of his passions, but help me pair it with one of our shared passions: craft beer!
Living The Dream Brewing Company | 7-Speed IPA
November 5, 2019 | Carson MillerI still remember the day I learned how to ride a bike. There I stood, gazing down at the pavement in front of me as my dad counted down to my impending take-off: three… two… one. With one final push I was off, swaying from side to side like a rickety old boat but refusing to give in to either side. As I flew down my street with the wind in my ponytails and the summer sun shining on my beloved pink Huffy, I thought to myself, “It can’t get any better than this!” And while I may never feel that same rush of triumphantly rolling away from my cheering parents, I get pretty close any time I try a beer from Living The Dream Brewing Company. Fantôme Brewery | Hiver
November 1, 2019 | Camila NavarretteIt was a dark, blustery evening and the city was rushing to make it home before the arrival of an autumn snowstorm. The first snow of the season loomed over Denver as clouds darkened and the wind whipped the coats of commuters as we experienced the second-largest two-day temperature drop on record. Winter arrived early in Denver–including at my local liquor store, where I picked out a Fantôme Hiver, enticed by the mischievous ghost on the label, to warm me up on that brisk night. Read More

October 31, 2019 | Mike ZollerChicago’s barrel-aged beer selection is second to none when it comes to quality and quantity. While it’s easy to get lost in the releases of Bourbon County or Deep Wood, there are many smaller barrel-aged releases that deserve the attention of the craft beer market. For the second year in a row, Cruz Blanca’s Luchador Series brings big flavors and unique adjuncts to a set of beers that are standouts in a crowded market.

Everything You Need to Survive FoBAB This Year
October 30, 2019 | Mathew PowersTwo hundred breweries from around the country will come to Chicago on Nov 8-9 and offer guests a wide variety of wall-to-wall, remarkable barrel-aged beers. However, with an abundance of wilds, sours and a host of bourbon, rum and wine barrel-aged brews, the Festival of Barrel Aged Beers (FoBAB) tests both one’s liver and belly.
So, how do you survive? How can you avoid getting so inebriated you can’t taste the beer…or walk? How do you avoid having your stomach curdle? For that matter, how do you enjoy FoBAB fully?
Don’t worry; we have a plan.

Dogfish Head | Suddenly Comfy
October 30, 2019 | Taylor LaabsSome beers are just meant for certain seasons—or temperatures. While Oktoberfests and pumpkin beers are synonymous with fall weather and football, many other seasonal offerings can get lost in the fray. Dogfish Head’s Punkin Ale is a staple of the Delaware brewery’s seasonal lineup, yet it’s a newer, apple pie-inspired cream ale release that might start driving bigger headlines soon. First released last November, Dogfish Head’s Suddenly Comfy Cream Ale is back again with an earlier fall release and a bevy of unique fall flavors that makes it immensely memorable.
