Chicago White Sox Stadium’s Craft Kave Boasts 75 Craft Beers

April 3, 2017 |

The Craft Kave at Guaranteed Rate Field has taken the traditional baseball and beer concept and improved it mightily. Fans can enter the bar, order any of the 75 craft/quasi-craft beers, eat chef-inspired food or order from the full bar menu. Early indications are that the new relationship between the Chicago White Sox and its new stadium owner, Guaranteed Rates, are taking craft beer seriously. This is no gimmick, this is a celebration of good beer.

Voodoo Brewery | Vivrant Thing

April 3, 2017 |

Style: American Pale Ale | ABV: 7.1%

This past Saturday I took a drive to Voodoo Brewery in Homestead to pick up some fresh cans of Vivrant Thing. The first thing that popped into my head was that song “Vivrant Thing” by Q-tip from his album, Amplified. Some of you may remember this song or this is the first time you have heard of it, but seriously search it on iTunes and give it a listen; the song is as good as Voodoo’s beer.

Second Life Brewing Co. Debuts The AfterLife Series

April 1, 2017 |

Second Life Brewing Co. has created a new program to help send off your loved ones in a very special way. Jon Draugr, founder and owner of Second Life Brewing Co. said, “We were sitting around having drinks after my great-aunt died about eight months ago and we got to talking about different funeral traditions. You know, Viking burials at sea, Egyptian mummies, spreading ashes at sea, and that is when it hit us, almost all at once. What if we brewed a beer specially made for the family? This wouldn’t be any beer though, no! This would be a beer brewed with the deceased’s ashes sprinkled in.”

What We’re Drinking | March 31, 2017

March 31, 2017 |

Through no fault of our own, we didn’t get to post What We’re Drinking last week. The opposition party believes that this was caused by a vast international conspiracy. Luckily, the chairman of the House Beer Blog Oversight Committee assures me that there is nothing to worry about and has canceled all future hearings on the matter. We should be in the clear, as long as Fake Tears over in the Senate doesn’t dig too deep into this. In order to wipe this minor oversight from your minds, I present a special two-week edition of What We’re Drinking. Fake news!

What Happens When Craft Beer Replaces Your Neighborhood Bar?

March 31, 2017 |

I graduated from college almost exactly eight years ago and pretty soon thereafter found my way west to explore the wild unknown that is Colorado. As you can clearly tell, I’m no native, but I’ve been around Denver long enough to have witnessed the transformation of this city in a variety of different ways.

Founders Brewing | KBS 2017 Release

March 31, 2017 |

The continued meteoric rise of craft breweries affords beer drinkers an opportunity to enjoy special releases with unfathomable regularity. But, once in a while, a classic “gotta have it,” beer rolls around; be it Pliny the Younger, Utopias, or in this case — KBS.

Since 2002, Founders Brewing has been putting its coffee-chocolate-malty stout in whiskey barrels and then storing them below its Grand Rapids home for a year. Each spring, just as tulips emerge from the soil, KBS escapes the caves so it can be enjoyed by throngs of fans. Welcome to spring; welcome to KBS season.

Sometime in the mid-1990s, when I first returned to St. Louis as a legal drinker, my friend Mike Green took me to the Black Thorn Pub located on the corner of Wyoming and south Spring in South St. Louis. Unknown to me at the time, this visit started my secret obsession with corner bars.

Brewery Showcase | Arches Brewing

March 30, 2017 |

One of the hottest new breweries in the Atlanta-area is Hapeville, Georgia’s Arches Brewing. Hapeville may be an unfamiliar city name, but the brewery is located just north of one of the world’s busiest airports, Hartsfield-Jackson International. Arches is creating a lot of buzz as one of the best new breweries in Georgia (THE best in my opinion), so it’s clearly wasting no time making its mark on the Georgia craft beer landscape.
